Job Description Role: Engineer E4 - Geotechnical - Generation Stations Contract Duration: 12 months Location: Victoria, BC (Onsite - relocation required) Max INC Rate: $86.11/ Max T4 Rate: $71.17/ This role is fully onsite in Victoria, BC. Candidates must relocate; accommodation will not be provided Night shift work may be required during the first 7-8 months of the assignment No Fly-In/Fly-Out arrangements available Candidates must maintain compliance with EGBC Permit to Practice requirements BC Hydro utilizes Digital Sign and Seal technology through Notarius. Key Responsibilities Develop safe and effective engineering solutions for medium complexity geotechnical and civil engineering projects related to generation stations, dams, and underground utility infrastructure
Prepare engineering deliverables including design basis reports, scopes of work, technical specifications, construction work packages, calculations, hazard logs, test plans, and cost estimates. Perform engineering analysis and design in accordance with BC Hydro Engineering Design Practices and EGBC requirements. Prepare signed and sealed engineering deliverables as Professional of Record (PoR).
Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering design activities to ensure constructability, schedule alignment, safety, and quality objectives are achieved. Support route selection studies, daylighting activities, constructability reviews, and early-stage investigations for underground transmission and utility projects. Conduct site investigations including drill hole layout, test pits, field inspections, in-situ testing, soil and rock logging, sample collection, instrumentation installation, and geotechnical monitoring.
Analyze and interpret geotechnical data from field investigations, laboratory testing, LiDAR, GIS, satellite imagery, surveys, and published sources. Perform seepage, stability, deformation, liquefaction, and seismic analyses for embankments, slopes, dams, excavations, retaining structures, and foundations. Design shallow foundations, retaining walls, drainage systems, soil anchors, grouting programs, and ground improvement solutions.
Provide construction engineering support including RFIs, SRQs, field instructions, inspections, field reviews, contractor coordination, and construction deficiency management. Conduct construction inspections to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, codes, standards, and BC Hydro requirements. Review contractor deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Maintain detailed project documentation including inspection reports, field review reports, deficiency logs, and construction progress reports. Support commissioning activities, project close-out documentation, as-built drawings, design conformance certificates, and construction completion reporting. Promote and enforce health, safety, and environmental requirements in accordance with BC Hydro policies and project safety plans.
Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and technical staff. Participate in the development of engineering standards, procedures, and best practices. Required Qualifications Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligible for immediate registration
Minimum 8 years of relevant geotechnical or civil engineering experience. Degree in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering. Professional Liability Insurance.
Valid Class 5 Driver's License. First Aid Certification (Transportation Endorsement considered an asset). Experience in underground utility construction and design.
Experience with construction field support, inspections, and contract administration. Ability to prepare signed and sealed engineering deliverables. Strong understanding of EGBC professional practice requirements and BC Hydro design standards.
Ability to work independently and resolve complex engineering issues using sound technical judgment. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Strong organizational and stakeholder coordination skills.
Intermediate proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards. Experience supporting generation station or dam infrastructure projects in British Columbia
Experience working night shifts on active construction projects.
