Detox Nurse

Location: Johnston, IA
Setting: Detox/Residential Treatment Facility
Clientele: Adult, Co-Ed, Dual Diagnosis
Structure: Per Diem or Full-time Available
Pay: $35-$40/hr (depending on experience)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable and compassionate Nurse (RN/LVN/LPN) to provide nursing support at a detox/residential treatment facility in Des Moines, IA. This facility serves an adult, co-ed, dual diagnosis population struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.

The LVN will be responsible for supporting client care, medication administration, detox monitoring, documentation, and coordination with the clinical and medical team. The ideal candidate will have strong nursing judgment, professionalism, and experience working in behavioral health, substance use treatment, detox, residential, or similar healthcare settings.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care and support to clients in a detox/residential treatment setting.
  • Monitor clients for signs and symptoms of withdrawal, medical concerns, behavioral changes, and overall stability.
  • Administer medications as ordered and in accordance with facility policies and applicable nursing regulations.
  • Complete medication documentation accurately and timely.
  • Perform nursing assessments, vitals, and ongoing client observations as needed.
  • Communicate client concerns, changes in condition, or medical issues to the appropriate medical provider or clinical team.
  • Support clients with medication education, health education, and basic wellness needs.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, and client transitions as appropriate.
  • Document client interactions, nursing notes, medication administration, incidents, and other required records.
  • Maintain compliance with facility policies, confidentiality standards, HIPAA, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, case managers, and behavioral health staff to support coordinated care.
  • Respond appropriately to medical, psychiatric, or behavioral emergencies.
  • Support a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for clients.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and provide compassionate, client-centered care.
  • Participate in shift change communication and relay relevant client updates to incoming staff.

Qualifications

  • Active Nurse license in the state of Iowa.
  • Prior experience in detox, residential treatment, behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, psychiatric care, or similar setting preferred.
  • Experience working with adult dual diagnosis populations preferred.
  • Strong understanding of medication administration, withdrawal monitoring, documentation, and client safety.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Must be reliable, professional, and comfortable working in a per diem capacity.
  • CPR/BLS certification preferred or required upon hire.
  • Experience with electronic health records preferred.

Compensation

Pay is $35–$40/hr, depending on credentials and experience.
