POSITION SUMMARYFirst review of applications on June 5, 2026Expected Hiring Range: $73,136 - 91,420Starting Salary Depending on Experience and QualificationsUnder general supervision, provides complex advisory, technical and strategic planning support to the Community and Economic Development Director in support of the Town of Oro Valley's Destination Marketing Organization (DMO).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Prepares reports, creates information packets including economic, statistical, financial, growth and demographic, and other information for dissemination to internal and external customers.
- Maintains DMO platform and related web platform information.
- Develops and drafts policies, reports and analyses related to the goals and key performance indications for the DMO.
- Manages and directs complex projects by coordinating, forecasting, budgeting, analyzing, and collaborating with Town staff and outside organizations.
- Assists in tracking and monitoring department budget including making projections, and recommending budget amendments.
- Works within databases and spreadsheets including performing data entry and retrieval.
- Identifies, submits applications for, and manages grant opportunities and awards.
- Works with regional group booking, sports, and leisure travel partners to develop collaborative strategies.
- Provides back-up support to the Community and Economic Development Director as needed for projects and during absences.
- Prepares and responds to RFPs.
- Oversees the application process for Special Events applications.
- Provides guidance, researches and analyzes cost-benefit studies, develops and maintains databases, and responds to and forwards questions related to event producer inquiries, meetings, sports events, and associated venues.
- Represents the Town as a liaison in local and regional meetings and leisure travel initiatives, Town Tourism Stakeholder meetings, private and public arts programs, retail, restaurant, marketing, Chamber of Commerce, and related associations and at meetings, conferences, and trade shows.
- Supervise interns or other staff as needed.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to observe, review and check the work of contractors to ensure conformance to standards, agreements, and local, State, and Federal agencies.
- Ability to operate personal computer hardware and software, Microsoft Office Suite and online meeting programs.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge and proficiency in project management, collaboration, project development and implementation, and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of research sources, SaaS programs and trend data reports for new development techniques and methods.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Town and Department policies and procedures.
- Skill in interpreting and applying relevant Town, state and Federal statutes, ordinances, codes, rules and regulations governing economic development and tourism.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, flexibility and independent judgement as new projects arise.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Hospitality/Tourism, or a closely related field.
- Five (5) years' experience in Economic Development, Hospitality or Tourism.
- Must possess a valid Class D Arizona driver license upon the first day of employment.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Master's degree in Business or Public Administration, Hospitality/Tourism, or a closely related field is preferred.
- A professional certificate in Economic Development and/or Hospitality/Tourism is preferred.
- Experience in a municipal or government setting is preferred.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND WORKING CONDITIONS- Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment.
- Some local, state, and national travel is required.
- Regular and reliable attendance; may work more than forty hours in a workweek without additional compensation to perform assigned job duties, including weekends, evenings, early morning hours, and holidays as required.
