Job Description:

Department Overview

About TD Securities - Global FICC (Fixed Income, Currency, Commodities) Technology

TD Securities is a leading North American investment bank and financial services provider that offers advisory and capital market services to corporate, government, and institutional clients worldwide. We offer a range of services across corporate and investment banking, capital markets, global transaction services, research & strategy and ESG Solutions.

The Global FICC Technology group aims to drive business growth for our partners in the Front-Office, Operations and beyond. We do this with a mandate of delivering innovative new products, expanding our trading tool capabilities and modernizing critical platforms.

About Atomic Team

Atomic Innovation is transforming the application landscape across TD Securities.

We are a multidisciplinary team of product designers, engineers, and technology professionals building modern products for some of the bank's most sophisticated business areas. Our portfolio spans Metals, Energy, Foreign Exchange, FX Options, Fixed Income, and Operations, along with the shared FICC Unified Desktop platform that brings these experiences together.

We work directly with Front-Office Sales & Trading users, Operations teams, and subject-matter experts to understand complex workflows and turn them into products that are simpler, faster, and more intuitive. We value thoughtful product decisions, strong engineering, polished user experiences, and practical solutions that create meaningful value for our users.

The Opportunity

Atomic is looking for a Technical Product Designer who enjoys making complicated things feel simple. This is an end-to-end product design role with meaningful ownership across one or more Atomic product areas.

You will work directly with users, product partners, and engineers to uncover problems, shape product direction, design and validate solutions, support implementation, and improve the experience after launch. You will also contribute to the shared patterns and evolving design system used across the Atomic portfolio.

You do not need to begin the role as a capital markets expert or a production software developer. You should, however, be curious about how sophisticated financial workflows operate, comfortable learning complex domains, and interested in partnering closely with technical teams.

What You'll Do

Understand the Problem

  • Work directly with Front-Office Sales & Trading users, Operations users, and subject-matter experts to understand complex workflows, goals, and pain points.

  • Lead discovery conversations that turn ambiguous requests into clearly defined user problems, requirements, and product opportunities.

  • Challenge assumptions and identify ways to make existing workflows simpler, faster, safer, and more intuitive.

Design the Product Experience

  • Translate user needs into clear workflows, prototypes, and polished high-fidelity designs in Figma.

  • Design complete experiences that account for interaction details, information density, validation, permissions, error states, and operational exceptions.

  • Iterate with users, engineers, and product stakeholders while contributing reusable patterns that improve consistency across the Atomic portfolio.

Partner Through Delivery

  • Turn designs into clear, engineering-ready requirements and collaborate closely with developers throughout implementation.

  • Review delivered features to ensure the intended workflow and experience are maintained while adapting pragmatically to technical constraints.

  • Gather feedback after launch and use what you learn to improve both the product and Atomic's broader design practices.

Who You Are

You are a product designer with strong interaction-design fundamentals and the curiosity to learn complex business domains.

You are comfortable entering an ambiguous conversation, asking the right questions, mapping a workflow, and gradually turning it into a solution that users and engineers can understand. You care about visual craft, but you recognize that a great interface begins with a clear understanding of the user, the workflow, and the underlying problem.

You enjoy working directly with users and do not need every requirement to be fully defined before getting started. You can move between discovery, workflow analysis, prototyping, detailed design, and delivery partnership depending on what the product needs.

You communicate clearly, welcome constructive feedback, and can explain the reasoning behind your decisions without becoming overly attached to a particular solution.

Most importantly, you take ownership of the experience you design and remain engaged from the earliest product conversations through implementation and iteration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional experience in product design, UX design, interaction design, or a closely related product role.

  • A portfolio demonstrating strong product thinking, interaction design skills, and meaningful contributions to delivered products.

  • Experience taking a product problem from discovery and early concepts through detailed design and implementation.

  • Strong proficiency with Figma, including user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, high-fidelity designs, and reusable components.

  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex, information-rich workflows into clear and usable product experiences.

  • Experience gathering requirements and feedback directly from users, stakeholders, or subject-matter experts.

  • Ability to translate business needs into clear workflows, design decisions, requirements, and acceptance criteria.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain design rationale and trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience collaborating closely with software engineers and adapting designs based on implementation considerations.

  • A degree, diploma, or equivalent practical experience in design, technology, business, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are helpful, but they are not required to apply:

  • Experience designing enterprise, fintech, capital markets, Operations, analytics, or other data-intensive products.

  • Experience designing information-rich or time-sensitive workflows for expert users.

  • Familiarity with financial markets, trading, risk, Operations, or banking workflows.

  • Experience contributing to a design system, reusable component library, or shared set of product patterns.

  • Understanding of accessibility and inclusive design practices.

  • Familiarity with responsive web applications and component-based front-end architecture.

  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, TypeScript, React, Storybook, or related front-end technologies.

  • Experience conducting user interviews, usability testing, workflow observation, or other forms of product discovery.

  • Experience working iteratively across multiple stakeholders and concurrent product priorities.

Our Product Environment

Atomic products are primarily built using React and TypeScript, supported by Node.js and Java services. Our teams also work with technologies including MongoDB, Microsoft SQL Server, Google Cloud Platform, and desktop interoperability frameworks.

Designers work in Figma and partner closely with engineers using reusable components and shared design patterns. We are continuing to evolve our approach to shared design tokens, component libraries, Storybook, visual consistency, and the connection between Figma and implemented products.

You are not expected to work as a production software developer. However, familiarity with modern web applications, HTML and CSS, React, Storybook, design systems, or component-based development will help you collaborate effectively with the engineering team.

How We Work

Atomic operates as a collaborative product and engineering team.

We value people who are curious, pragmatic, open to feedback, and willing to take ownership. We encourage team members to challenge assumptions, explore better approaches, and contribute ideas outside the strict boundaries of their role.

Our working environment is fast-moving and highly collaborative, but we aim to balance delivery with thoughtful product decisions and sustainable engineering practices. We also care about maintaining a professional, supportive, and inclusive team culture where people can continue to learn and grow.

Why Join Atomic?

  • Meaningful ownership: Help shape products from initial discovery through launch and iteration.

  • Direct access to users: Work closely with the people who use the products, rather than designing at a distance.

  • Interesting product challenges: Simplify sophisticated, high-value workflows where speed, clarity, accuracy, and reliability matter.

  • Strong engineering partnership: Work alongside experienced engineers who care about front-end quality and product experience.

  • Portfolio-level impact: Influence both individual products and the shared design patterns used throughout the Atomic ecosystem and across FICC Technology.

  • Room to grow: Expand your expertise across product design, financial workflows, design systems, technical collaboration, and product strategy.

  • Visible outcomes: See your work move from an early conversation into a product used by teams across TD Securities.
