Job description

Location: Miami, FL or Shelton, CT

Ready to build what’s next with one of the world’s most iconic brands?

Why Join Subway?

At Subway, we are not standing still. We are building.

This is a business focused on what matters most: growing franchisee profitability, strengthening our brand and creating long-term value. The people who thrive here are the ones who want to make a real impact.

You will not just do the work. You will shape it.

We move fast. We think like owners. We make decisions that matter. We hold ourselves to a high standard because what we do directly impacts thousands of franchisees around the world.

If you bring energy, accountability and a bias for action, you will fit right in.

We take the work seriously, but we also know the best results come from teams that support each other, celebrate wins and show up ready to build something better every day.

This is your chance to be part of what’s next.

About the Role

We're rebuilding the design foundation of a global franchise platform from the ground up — new reporting systems, new menu surfaces, new POS. No legacy constraints, no design debt to inherit. Just a blank canvas and a real mandate.

This is an Individual Contributor role for a designer who does their best work when they own something. You'll define how design works here — the systems, the standards, the collaboration patterns between product, design, and engineering — and then execute against them at production quality. If you've ever wanted to set the design culture at a company rather than inherit someone else's, this is it.

You'll be working on surfaces that real operators and franchise owners use every day. The work is meaty, it's visible, and it ships.

What You'll Own

  • Design system architecture for FZ's next generation of platforms — tokens, components, norms, and the documentation that makes them stick
  • The product-design-engineering working model — you'll define how design integrates into the build process from day one, not as an afterthought
  • High-fidelity prototyping in Figma through to production-grade designs that engineers trust and can actually build from
  • UX for FZ-facing platforms: new reporting tools, menu management systems, and POS interfaces across 20,000+ restaurant locations
  • Close partnership with product and engineering — you're a peer in the room, not a service provider downstream of decisions

What We're Looking For

  • Exceptional technical design skill — Figma fluency is required; you prototype at production quality, not wireframe quality
  • Design systems experience — you've built one, maintained one, and know why the tokens matter
  • Product thinking — you understand why things should be built, push back on the wrong problems, and shape requirements, not just execute them
  • A strong portfolio — we'll review your work together as a group; submit a link with your application so we can come prepared
  • Startup sensibility — you build from scratch, iterate fast, and don't wait for perfect information
  • Growth ambition — this role starts Individual Contributor, but it's built to scale with you
