The Role at a Glance:
NBBJ is seeking a Studio BIM Leader to join our Digital BIM team, based in Columbus, providing leadership, implementation support and technical enablement across multiple project teams to improve quality, consistency and productivity through Building Information Modelling (BIM).
The successful candidate will operate at a more senior, strategic level, working with the Digital BIM Team to define, evolve and implement BIM standards, tools and workflows. They will bring advanced Revit capability, strong technical judgement and the interpersonal skills needed to support adoption across the studio.
This is a studio-wide role, not tied to a single client or project team. It focuses on standards development, rollout, training, model quality, workflow consistency and the delivery infrastructure that enables effective project outcomes. The Studio BIM Leader will act as a resource across teams, supporting systems, processes and high-impact BIM delivery where needed.
The role will also mentor and upskill Project BIM Leaders and project teams, lead training initiatives, and help develop advanced tools and processes that improve efficiency and project performance.
This position offers opportunities to grow within the team and across the firm, with exposure to an innovative, fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic
โ€ข Work in partnership with Digital BIM Team members to maintain oversight across all projects in the studio
โ€ข Contribute to the development of firm standards, policies and best practices and lead in their alignment and adoption across projects
โ€ข Work with the Digital BIM Team in delivering communication to immediate connections across the firm e.g. studio(s), collegial group(s) project team(s)
โ€ข Implement staff training and education to meet project team needs
โ€ข Coordinate with Digital Operations to maintain oversight of staff machines to meet project and system requirements
โ€ข Assist the Digital Delivery team in the deployment of BIM software
โ€ข Act as a studio-wide resource for improving consistency, model quality, project delivery infrastructure and BIM-enabled workflows
โ€ข Work with the Digital BIM Team in delivering Digital Onboarding to new staff
Management
โ€ข Provide BIM leadership, mentorship and guidance on projects
โ€ข Mentor and upskill Project BIM Leaders and project team members in effective BIM delivery and workflow improvement
โ€ข Support Project Managers with project staffing and BIM Leader allocations
โ€ข Deliver Digital Process Design on assigned projects
โ€ข Lead project setup, including models, infrastructure and content from digital libraries
โ€ข Manage performance and model health on projects
โ€ข Lead adoption of agreed BIM processes that comply with project standards
โ€ข Oversee BIM-related production partnering, including communication, quality checks and management of activities
โ€ข Provide support and troubleshooting to project teams
โ€ข Deliver project onboarding for new staff and/or team members
โ€ข Coordinate software version and builds across project team member machines
Production
โ€ข Support Project Managers in organizing tasks within the BIM environment, including production, standards compliance and model maintenance
โ€ข Ensure key project BIM activities are performed, including information exchange, design coordination and model maintenance
โ€ข Contribute to project work, including modelling, data management and documentation
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of Architecture experience
  • Bachelor of Architecture, Building Information Modelling or equivalent
  • Proven experience delivering large and complex projects using Revit
  • Advanced level knowledge of Autodesk Revit Architecture
  • Enjoy working in a collaborative team environment
  • Proven experience in project coordination including collaboration with team members and external consultants, using industry-renowned software platforms
  • Ability to identify and communicate areas where skills, tools and processes could be improved
  • Passion for sharing knowledge and a demonstrated ability for clearly communicating complex technical ideas to designers, managers and clients
  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong working knowledge of Dynamo and pyRevit, including the ability to support or develop back-end scripting and tool-based workflow improvements
  • Experience implementing or supporting BIM quality, standards and model-checking tools
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
Additional Skills and Qualifications
  • Licensure (Architect)
  • Master of Architecture, Building Information Modelling Management or equivalent
  • Autodesk Certified Professional in Revit
  • Experience and passion for 'Computational BIM' through using Dynamo or other scripting and programming languages
  • Workflow knowledge in associated Autodesk products including: Navisworks, 3DS Max, BIM360, AutoCAD etc.
  • Experience with Rhino and Grasshopper
