Job description

POSITION: Combustion Design Project Engineer
LOCATION: Jupiter, FL
STATUS: Salary-Exempt


JOB SUMMARY

The Project and Mechanical design position will lead and support development and implementation of combustor system upgrades. This position works with a variety of internal and external teams to drive engineering and technical project management activities relating to gas turbine combustion modifications, and upgrades. Candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary design team working on Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) combustion components and systems to meet performance and design criteria such as combustion stability, operability, emissions, pressure drop, life, and cost across multiple engine frames.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead combustion system development projects, interfacing with other teams in the organization including Supply Chain, Gas Turbine (GT) Conversions, and Field Services.
  • Generate schedules, identify critical path activities, and align resources to ensure on time delivery of designs, manufactured parts, procurement of components and contractors, and on-site execution.
  • Setup and coordinate design and risk reviews per engineering design procedures, highlighting top project risks, assisting in the development of mitigation strategies and addressing all action items.
  • Support sales and tendering with project cost estimates and provide direction for site walkdown support during the bid phase.
  • Report project status and milestones to upper management.
  • Refine existing engineering procedures or develop new ones for continuous efficiency & quality improvement as well as lower execution cost.
  • Design Industrial Gas Turbine Engine components and systems to meet fit, form and functional requirements and design criteria
  • Support the continued development and oversee the adherence to PSM design systems including job folders and documentation, technical reviews, drawings and engineering changes and field validation plans and verification
  • Utilize appropriate design/analysis tools, such as Creo, ANSYS, Microsoft Excel or similar
  • Assess needs and identify critical path schedules for design, manufacturing and procurement activities
  • Create, lead and/or deliver presentations to internal and external clients
  • Other duties as assigned


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Equivalent industry experience will also be considered
  • Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSM’s EHS Training Matrix


Skills/Experience

  • 10+ years of applicable experience in the GT industry, with 5+ years of experience related to Gas Turbine product development.
  • Strong analytical decision-making and organizational skills are required
  • Experience with 3D CAD software – Creo, NX, Solidworks
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes, general machining and fabrication techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Strong skills with MS Office programs. Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to perform hands-on fieldwork is strongly desired
  • Field work and travel may be required (up to 20%)
  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills, including ability to motivate and influence others.
