Key Roles & Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned. Directly or through others, the incumbent will:
    • Perform work incorporating strict adherence to Safety procedures and best practices and continually observe for safe working practices.
    • Regularly develops and presents safety topics.
    • Develop an understanding of HPI tools through training opportunities and practice. Actively participate in Pre/Post Job briefs.
    • Work with other technicians to perform routine and emergency maintenance and/or compliance activities on the plant instrumentation and control systems including weekends, holidays, and scheduled shift.
    • Cover Unit start-up and shut-down activities with assistance from other Technicians.
    • Calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain power plant instrumentation systems and equipment.
    • Learn to enter WRs and PRs into Maximo.
    • Assist in the design and implementation of O&M and Capital projects.
    • Learn to communicate LOTO requests to Operations.
    • Maintain a good working relationship with Operations, Electrical, Purchasing, Warehouse personnel, other support groups and vendors.
    • Successfully delivers results by thorough and detailed completion of job responsibilities.
    • Takes pride in thorough and detailed completion of a job.
    • Communicate to the Supervisor ANY unusual and out -of- the-ordinary equipment condition or issues which may hinder normal operation or may cause budget impacting cost.
    • Assist the on-call technician during call-outs.

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
Associates degree in Instrumentation or Electronics or High School Diploma/GED with two (2) years related work experience.
    • Provide the technical expertise and skills to effectively troubleshoot low voltage electrical circuits.
    • Provide the technical expertise and skills to perform calibrations and maintenance of field instrumentation including transmitters (level, pressure, flow, temperature, etc.), control valves, valve positioners, thermocouples, etc.
    • Develop knowledge and understanding of the power plant processes (material handling, water side equipment, air side equipment, emission controls, turbine/generator, etc.).
    • Demonstrates specific knowledge and skills to perform job assignments.
    • Demonstrates continual self-improvement in job skills and knowledge.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of how job assignment impacts other systems/units and uses this knowledge to maximize safety and minimize equipment problems.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and utilization of resources required to perform job, such as drawings, instruction books, calibration data sheets, MAXIMO, etc.
    • Proficient computer skills.
    • All applicants must be a successful candidate on the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS / MASS) program in order to be considered a candidate for this position. POSS / MASS exams are administered on an as-needed basis by Human Resources and all communication concerning the testing is sent to the candidate's email address provided during the application process.

Measure of Success
Promotion from the I&C Tech I position must be approved by the appropriate site management. The Supervisor will evaluate and recommend advancement based on the employee's ability to:
Associates degree in Instrumentation or Electronics and one (1) year as a Tech. I or three (3) years related work experience.
    • Develop the technical expertise and skills to provide, with occasional assistance, the ability to effectively troubleshoot and maintain the Plant control systems (DCS, TCS & PLCs).
    • Develop the technical expertise and skills to provide, with occasional assistance, the ability to effectively troubleshoot and maintain the control systems communication networks (DCS, TCS & PLC).
    • Develop the technical expertise and skills to configure and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives with limited assistance.
    • Develop the technical expertise and skills to calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain weigh scales with limited assistance.
    • Utilize HPI tools in daily work assignments.
    • Able to enter WRs and PRs into Maximo.
    • Able to cover call-out duties with minimal assistance.
