TITLE: Design Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager

LOCATION: Viola

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for carrying out duties that include design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, estimating and process improvement. Work with engineers, technicians, purchasing, other personnel, and suppliers to meet project goals. Perform tasks as required to complete projects on time and under budget.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Thoroughly understand and adhere to the department goals, objectives, and strategy
  • Establish and maintain credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions
  • Present and maintain positive morale amongst employees
  • Use specialized software to create models and drawing of products
  • Research new materials and methods of development
  • Organize and maintain existing engineering records
  • Construct prototypes and confirm designs with design/purchasing team
  • Perform physical testing on engineering prototypes
  • Ensure components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry and business standards
  • Establishes specifications, targets, and deliverables and maintains the product specifications from the reviews with all relevant parties (management, marketing, finance, engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales, etc.)
  • Plans and fabricates, or directs the construction of prototypes to meet customer and company regulatory requirements
  • Project planning including Work Breakdown Structure, NPV, and Statement of Requirements, budgets, and maintenance of all project documents in accordance with the Product Development Process
  • Leads project meetings, design reviews, and communicates results. Reports monthly to the department meeting.
  • Create test reports and data to determine if design meets function and performance specifications
  • Helps to establish test requirements, directs and supports testing of prototypes to verify reliability and performance
  • Work within specified budget guidelines
  • Determines if parts meet safe working stress levels and regulatory compliance through test and analysis
  • Provide input to diagnosis of field problems and warranty issues
  • Perform other projects and tasks as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experienced working as an engineering professional in Powersports or a related industry preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CAD software
  • Extensive knowledge of metal fabrication processes
  • Attention to detail
  • Flexible, energetic, forward-thinking, and creative with high moral and ethical standards
  • High analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus
  • Well organized and self-directed
  • Familiarity with IC engines and their components
  • Able to relate to people at all levels of the organization in a positive fashion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; working knowledge of computer applications
  • B.S. in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or related Engineering degree
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in mechanical design

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Will be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting in a production environment as well as in an office
  • While performing duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and forklift traffic
  • The noise level is moderate, and some production areas may require hearing protection in accordance with OSHA requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms above shoulders, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
  • Must comply with safety and PPE standards, including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety toed shoes
