MECHANICAL DESIGNER

 

Reports To:                 Mechanical Design Manager

Location:                     Welham Road, Barrie, Ontario

Collaborates With:      Production, Controls, Robotics and Project Design Teams

 We are actively seeking Mechanical Designers to join the Prodomax Team.

The Opportunity

 

You will provide Mechanical Design solutions in an automation environment reporting directly to the Mechanical Design Manager and receiving project direction from a designated Design Lead.

Your level within the role will be determined by the skills and experience you bring when taking on this exciting career opportunity to join the Prodomax Team.  Responsibilities are noted as you progress within the role.


 

Junior:

Job Responsibilities:

    • Provide mechanical design support to Production and Engineering teams.
    • Design simple jigs and fixtures using SolidWorks
    • Prepare detailed drawings for manufacturing and assembly.

Growth Focus: Actively seek mentorship and takes ownership of progressively complex tasks to transition from assisting on projects to independently managing sub-assembly designs. Work towards an Intermediate level position.

Level of Education/Experience:

  • Engineering Degree or Engineering Technologist/Technician (BSc. P. Eng. or CET.) recent or in progress.  Entry level design experience 

Intermediate:

Job Responsibilities:

    • Design complex jigs and fixtures with multiple motions and interacting with robots.
    • Specify and size appropriate purchased components for fixtures.
    • Perform load and stress calculations.
    • Support production team to troubleshoot tool functionality.
    • Understand electrical and fluid power equipment required that interact with tool design.

Growth Focus: Demonstrate technical leadership by identifying design efficiencies and taking a lead role in project scoping, preparing to move from execution to high-level conceptual design. Works towards a Senior level position.

Education/Experience:

    • Engineering Degree or Engineering Technician/Technologist Diploma
    • 3 - 5+ years of direct working experience with automated welding and assembly equipment

 

Senior:

Job Responsibilities:

    • Concept tools using GD&T drawings and part data.
    • Implement and suggest design solutions based on understanding of production environment.
    • Take ownership of the mechanical design standards and "Best Practices" library to ensure consistency across all projects.
    • Review customer specifications and ensure design compliance.
    • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for cross-functional meetings (Controls, Project Management, Sales) and customer meetings.
    • Review the work of Intermediate and Junior designers for technical accuracy and adherence to project timelines.

 Education/Experience:

    • Engineering Degree or Engineering Technician/Technologist Diploma
    • 5 - 8+ years of direct working experience with automated welding and assembly equipment
