About the role:

As a Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer you will oversee the design, development, implementation, and analysis of highly complex technical products, processes, components, equipment, and systems.

You will report to the Mechanical Systems and Equipment Nuclear Plant Mechanical Engineering. This position is hybrid in nature requiring several days a week on-site at Westinghouse's Cranberry Woods Headquarters office, and the other days telecommuting. No relocation will be provided for this position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and coordinate design efforts for one or more mechanical systems, components, or technical projects.
  • Verify, review, and co-author documents, assuring high quality, use of Human Performance tools, and training of professionals.
  • Author or co-author complex reports and licensing submittals.
  • Work is both independent and collaborative, and of a complex nature, requiring extensive technical experience and capabilities.
  • Perform system design planning, including system design; design review preparation; and interfaces with other systems, testing, components, licensing, and others.
  • Work with Manager to resource systems and equipment work in your areas of responsibility, identifying resource, technical, and schedule gaps and supporting schedule development.
  • Lead technical teams, providing oversight while delegating work and mentoring team members.
  • Work with stakeholders on your responsibilities regarding progress, technical issues, cost and schedule.
  • Identify and define technical issues, risks and challenges related to your areas of responsibility and lead the resolution of technical issues that impact multiple stakeholders. This involves utilizing decision tools and balancing the overall product needs to resolve the technical issue.
  • Work and collaborate with other personnel regarding your areas of responsibility including partners such as national laboratories, sub-contractors, partners, suppliers, fabricators, and customers.
  • Mentor engineers but also lead a team of engineers in the execution of complex tasks.
  • Perform presentations and training to internal and external audiences.
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory meetings.
  • Support the development of proposals for various designs and projects, as needed.
Qualifications:
  • BS in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering
  • 7+ years of applicable experience
  • Broad knowledge of engineering procedures
  • Knowledge and experience in systems and/or component design, development, and analysis, including fluid systems and/or solid-state machines and interfaces with instrumentation and control
  • Significant experience in a technical leadership role with aspects of design, modeling, and analysis and with the ability to manage technical teams in challenging situations with complex tasks
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on occasion

Beneficial:

  • P.E. Certification in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering or willingness to obtain one 
  • Knowledge and experience in primary and secondary side power plant systems.
  • Masters in Engineering

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $103,200 to $129,000 per year.
