Position: Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Onsite in Oak Ridge, TN
Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Job Summary
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer in FMD provides electrical engineering expertise to support the design and execution of projects involving data center construction, renovation, and other power and cooling-related infrastructure. The engineer assists with developing electrical design packages, reviewing technical documentation, and ensuring engineering deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, and organizational requirements.
This role supports project managers, design leads, and cross-functional engineering teams throughout the project life cycle, from conceptual design through construction and commissioning.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide electrical engineering support for projects involving data center, power distribution, and critical infrastructure systems.
  • Contribute to the development and review of electrical design documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Assist with system evaluations and calculations, including load studies, fault current analysis, protective device coordination, and equipment sizing.
  • Support coordination efforts between engineering disciplines, project managers, construction teams, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable electrical codes, standards, and organizational requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and project meetings as needed.
  • Provide engineering input during construction and commissioning activities when requested.
  • Help troubleshoot and resolve general technical issues related to electrical systems.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting electrical design for data center construction/renovation or other power and cooling infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
  • Proficiency in reading and contributing to plans, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, power distribution systems, and critical facility requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience with DOE or other federal projects.
  • Familiarity with design-build project environments.
  • Experience supporting engineering deliverables across the full project life cycle (concept, planning, design, construction, and commissioning).
