What is a design associate?

Design Associates are entry- to mid-level professionals who support design teams in creating visual concepts, layouts, and presentations for projects across industries such as graphic design, interior design, fashion, and architecture. They assist senior designers by conducting research, preparing materials, and using design software to bring creative ideas to life. Design Associates often collaborate with clients and other team members to ensure that the final product aligns with project goals and brand standards.

What are some common challenges design associates face when working on multiple projects simultaneously?

Design Associates often juggle several projects at once, which can make managing deadlines and shifting priorities a challenge. Effective communication with team members and clear organization of tasks are essential to ensure all projects move forward smoothly. Additionally, adapting quickly to feedback from clients or senior designers is key, as project requirements can change rapidly. Building strong time management skills and staying flexible will help you thrive in this fast-paced environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a design associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Design Associate, you need a solid understanding of design principles, proficiency in graphic design, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with industry-standard design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) is typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate creatively are essential soft skills. These skills and qualities enable effective project execution, ensure design consistency, and foster successful teamwork in a fast-paced creative environment.

What is the difference between Design Associate vs Design Coordinator?

Both roles require similar credentials, but Design Coordinators usually have additional organizational responsibilities.

What are 20 careers in design?

Job description

Who We Are
At Kyndryl, we design, build, manage and modernize the mission-critical technology systems that the world depends on every day. So why work at Kyndryl? We are always moving forward - always pushing ourselves to go further in our efforts to build a more equitable, inclusive world for our employees, our customers and our communities.
The Role
Your role
As an AI UX Designer at Kyndryl, you will lead the design activities that connect insight, imagination, and execution for the next era of computing. You aren't just building interfaces; you are defining the mental models and interaction patterns that allow humans to collaborate seamlessly with autonomous agents.
Join Kyndryl and gain the trust, autonomy and teamwork to help define what comes next for us, our customers and global industries as a whole.
What you will do
Humanize Complex Intelligence
• Architect intentional journeys: You'll lead user research to uncover pain points in the human-AI relationship, creating journey maps that turn the complexity of multi-step agentic reasoning into clarity for the end user.
• Design for non-deterministic UI: You will move beyond static wireframes to create dynamic interaction patterns that handle AI latency, ambiguity, and error states gracefully, ensuring users always feel in control of the autonomous process.
Choreograph the Collaborative Loop
• Facilitate co-creation: Lead workshops and usability tests to balance desirability with feasibility, working closely with creative technologists and AI engineers to ensure the intelligence of the system matches the intuition of the user.
• Master Human-in-the-Loop (HITL): Design the critical hand-off moments where an agent needs human validation, ensuring that transparency and trust are built into every automated workflow.
Advocate for Inclusive Evolution
• Champion ethical design: Advocate for accessibility and inclusive intelligence, ensuring that our AI experiences are equitable and work for all users across diverse backgrounds.
• Shape the interface era: Maintain a strong perspective on how agentic AI drives human-centered design, using clear storytelling to inspire alignment across the full design lifecycle-from discovery to delivery.
Kyndryl currently does not require employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, however, if you are hired to work at a client, customer, or partner location, you may be required to show proof of vaccination to align with their respective COVID-19 vaccination policies. Those who believe they are eligible may apply for a medical or religious accommodation prior to the start of employment.
Who You Are
Required skills and experience
• UX / experience design or a related field, with a strong portfolio of enterprise or innovation-studio projects
• Deep understanding of user-centered design, interaction design, and usability testing methods
• Comfortable facilitating co-creation sessions and presenting to clients
• Direct experience with AI, agentic AI/UX and data-driven design is preferred
• A POV on how AI can drive human-centered design and co-creation
• Experience with emerging AI assistants (Figma Make, MiroAI, Adobe Firefly, Lovable, etc)
• Fluent in Figma or Sketch, or similar prototyping tools
• Experience working with developers / product managers to translate research into delivery
• Excellent communication skills in English
The compensation range for the position in the U.S. is -
$63,360 to $114,120 based on a full-time schedule.
Your actual compensation may vary depending on your geography, job-related skills and experience. For part time roles, the compensation will be adjusted appropriately. The pay or salary range will not be below any applicable state, city or local minimum wage requirement.
There is a different applicable compensation range for the following work locations:
California (San Francisco Bay Area):$76,080 to $137,040
California (All Other):$69,720 to $125,640
Colorado: $63,360 to $114,120
Massachusetts $63,360 to $125,640
New York City: $76,080 to $137,040
Washington: $69,720 to $125,640
Washington DC:$69,720 to $125,640
This position will be eligible for Kyndryl's discretionary annual bonus program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Kyndryl's applicable plans. You may also receive a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical and dental coverage, disability, retirement benefits, paid leave, and paid time off. Note: If this is a sales commission eligible role, you will be eligible to participate in a sales commission plan in lieu of the annual discretionary bonus program.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
