Position: Engineer 2 โ€“ Gas Distribution Designย

Duration: 2 years

Client: Southern Company Gas

Position Summary

The Engineer 2 โ€“ Design Contractor supports the planning, design, and development of technical standards for natural gas distribution infrastructure projects at Southern Company Gas. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer who is a self-starter, strong communicator, and critical thinker capable of making sound engineering decisions in a collaborative utility environment.

Natural gas is a critical component of Americaโ€™s energy mix, serving more than 70 million homes and businesses. This position offers an exciting opportunity to support the design and construction of safe, reliable natural gas facilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support planning, design, and development of gas distribution infrastructure projects
  • Perform engineering assignments related to:
    • Gas storage facilities
    • Gas fueling station projects
    • Pipeline components and system functionality
  • Assist with the planning and design of mechanical equipment and components, including maintenance considerations
  • Perform system balance calculations to identify system constraints, low points, and optimal engineering solutions
  • Support and provide engineering oversight for construction activities
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, contractors, and field personnel to resolve design and construction issues
  • Apply company standards, engineering practices, and safety principles to all work activities
