Civil Design Assistant Project Manager

Civil Assistant Project Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking a proactive Civil Assistant Project Manager to support project delivery for land development projects across residential, commercial and industrial sectors. The successful candidate will assist project managers in planning, coordinating and executing civil engineering design and construction activities, with a focus on site grading, drainage and stormwater management. This role requires a strong civil engineering background, hands-on experience in land development, and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients and regulatory agencies to deliver projects on time and on budget.
Key Responsibilities

  • Support project managers in the planning, design, permitting and construction phases of land development projects (residential, commercial, industrial).
  • Prepare and review civil engineering design documents, calculations and technical reports related to grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and earthwork analysis.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets and scope tracking; assist with cost estimating and change order documentation.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies and internal teams to obtain permits, resolve design issues and ensure compliance with zoning and local regulations.
  • Perform site visits and construction observations to verify compliance with approved plans and to document site conditions and progress.
  • Assist with QA/QC reviews of drawings and deliverables; ensure consistency and technical accuracy across project documentation.
  • Use MicroStation and/or  Civil3D, AutoCAD to produce and edit site plans, grading plans, utility plans and construction details.
  • Support preparation of bid packages, subcontractor coordination and evaluation of contractor submittals.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff; delegate tasks and review work to promote professional development and maintain project quality.
  • Contribute to business development activities including proposal preparation, scope development and client presentations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in land development and civil/site engineering.
  • Proven experience with site design, grading, drainage and stormwater management.
  • Strong understanding of zoning, permitting processes and local regulatory requirements for land development projects.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD/Civil3D is highly desirable.
  • Experience with erosion and sediment control practices, earthwork analysis and spillway design is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or demonstrated progression to obtaining (ex. EIT)
  • Demonstrated project coordination skills including schedule and budget tracking, client communication and subconsultant management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical reports and present to clients and agencies.
