About this opportunity

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. is hiring an Assistant Project Manager to support the successful delivery of commercial construction projects by assisting with planning, coordination, and execution from preconstruction through closeout. Based out of our Traverse City, MI, this role partners closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and project stakeholders to help maintain schedules, control costs, manage documentation, and uphold quality and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.

What you'll do

  • Assist with preconstruction activities, bidding, subcontracting, and procurement
  • Coordinate project documentation including RFIs, submittals, schedules, cost logs, and meeting notes
  • Support field and office teams by communicating schedule updates, material needs, and design clarifications
  • Track project progress, milestones, and cost projections; support job cost reviews
  • Review drawings and specifications to identify issues requiring clarification
  • Help manage change orders, pay applications, and budget updates
  • Participate in quality reviews, site walks, and safety coordination efforts
  • Support project closeout by assembling warranties, punch lists, and turnover documentation

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (preferred)
  • 3-6 years of experience supporting commercial construction projects with a general contractor
  • Working knowledge of construction means and methods, schedules, contracts, and documentation processes
  • Strong communication, organization, and coordination skills
  • A teamoriented mindset with a focus on safety, quality, and client service
