What is the difference between Denture Repair vs Dental Laboratory Technician?

AspectDenture RepairDental Laboratory Technician
CredentialsCertifications in denture repair techniques, often requiring dental assistant or lab tech certificationDental technician certification, with specialization in prosthetics
Work EnvironmentDental offices, clinics, or specialized repair labsDental labs, manufacturing facilities, or prosthetic labs
Job FocusRepairing, adjusting, and maintaining denturesCreating, designing, and fabricating dental prosthetics including dentures
Common UsagePatients seeking quick repairs or adjustmentsDental practices and labs producing custom prosthetics

While both roles involve working with dental prosthetics, Denture Repair focuses on fixing and adjusting existing dentures, often in a clinical setting. Dental Laboratory Technicians design and produce new dentures and prosthetics in a lab environment. Understanding these differences helps patients and professionals find the right service or career path.

How long does it take to become a denture repair technician?

Becoming a denture repair technician typically requires completing a dental laboratory technology program, which can take about 1 to 2 years, followed by on-the-job training. Certification or licensing may be required depending on the region, and skills in dental materials and tools are essential for proficiency.

How much can you make making dentures?

Denture repair technicians typically earn between $30,000 and $60,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and certification. Skilled technicians with advanced training or working in specialized labs can earn higher wages, and some may work freelance or own their own repair businesses.
