Dental Assistant in Training:

The Dental Assistant in Training position is designed for individuals interested in pursuing a career in dental assisting. Under the supervision of licensed Dentists, Dental Hygienists, and Dental Assistants the Dental Assistant in Training will learn the skills necessary to provide quality dental care and support clinical operations. This position combines hands-on training with practical experience in a community health center setting while preparing the employee for advancement into a Dental Assistant role. Adheres to the spirit of Sunrise Community Health mission statement while performing assigned duties and learning to become a Dental assistant.

Position Summary:

With a Quality, Customer First, and Compassionate approach, the Dental Assistant in Training will:

  • Resign from current position within Sunrise, if applicable.
  • Apply for open Dental Assistant position within Sunrise upon successful completion of the training program, regardless of clinic location.
  • Attend all scheduled training sessions, Monday through Friday.
  • Be willing and able to travel to all Sunrise dental locations as needed.
  • Demonstrate openness to constructive feedback from trainers and other clinical staff.
  • Establish and maintain a professional learning relationships with trainers, supervisors, managers, and clinical team members.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply Sunrise Community Health Policies and Procedures.
  • Develop the skills necessary to provide high quality patient care.
  • Follow established procedures for documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Serve as a patient advocate by helping ensure patients from vulnerable populations are informed and receive the highest standard of integrated healthcare through collaboration with medical, dental, and behavioral health providers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Dental Assistant in Training will receive instruction and demonstrate competency validation in:

  • Infection prevention and sterilization procedures
  • Dental terminology
  • Chairside assisting techniques
  • Dental radiology and x-ray safety
  • Electronic health record (EHR) documentation
  • Oral health education
  • Dental materials and instrumentation
  • Clinic workflow and patient care processes
  • Other dental duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).


Current immunizations are required to work at Sunrise Community Health and may vary dependent upon the position. Influenza (Flu) Vaccine is required for ALL staff. COVID vaccine is highly encouraged.
