OVERVIEW
The Marketing Director at Merritt Group is a strong supervisor and leader in the company, is responsible for overseeing our strategic government technology vendor and contractor accounts, and can provide deep domain expertise on accounts and to internal members based on strategic needs. For this particular role, we're seeking a Director with experience in Federal IT marketing to lead strategic marketing programs and campaigns for our B2G technology clients who seek to reach agency buyers and grow their business. The Marketing Director will drive integrated marketing communications and capture programs that span government-specific messaging, strategy, demand generation, marketing/sales collateral creation, brand/campaign development, content marketing, and web and digital initiatives.
The Marketing Director will manage key client marketing initiatives, interfacing with our clients as well as Merritt Group's Practice Groups, other Marketing Services team members, and the government community of associations and influencers to implement programs and campaigns. They will also coordinate with outside vendors - developers, video production teams, data partners, and more. They are an agency resource, are involved in operations for the company, are involved in the agency's new business efforts, and are expected to make suggestions where appropriate to ensure agency processes run smoothly and efficiently.

KEY FUNCTIONS
  • Client Relations: Ensure the highest level of client service for core accounts. Serve as a higher-level strategic asset for clients. Identify and respond to current and future client needs with the input of others on the team, proactively monitor marketing and client's industry trends to demonstrate knowledge of the market, and manage progress and the high quality of account work/projects.
  • Strategy/Messaging: Take the lead and/or oversee and review the development of all strategic campaign recommendations across multiple clients that demonstrate proficient knowledge of market dynamics, modern marketing best practices, message development, marketing distribution channels and promotional vehicles, and campaign measurement. Adeptly manage the execution of these campaigns, working with internal client resources, agency resources, and external media and marketing partners. Create company, product, industry, and campaign-level messaging and positioning. Create company, product, industry, and campaign-level messaging and positioning. Other common tasks include performing high-level market research and analysis and reporting findings to our client's executive management to demonstrate the progress of marketing efforts.
  • Industry Expertise: Have deep industry expertise in Federal IT marketing, as well as knowledge of 1-2 of our other core practice areas such as Cybersecurity and AI. Apply that to messaging, campaign strategy, client consulting, and internal team development.
  • Account Oversight: Oversee strategic accounts for the agency and ensure the success of the marketing managers/senior marketing managers as they manage the scope of all current and future projects.
  • Business Development/Account Growth: Drive opportunities to strategically grow our relationships and revenue with existing accounts, particularly large, strategic accounts. Actively support the VP and Partner team in pursuing and securing new business, including brainstorming solutions, proposal development, and presentation.
  • Marketing Campaign Planning, Execution, and Oversight: Create, manage, and/or oversee marketing programs and campaigns on behalf of clients, ranging from content, digital, advertising/paid, social, web, and more. Ensure they align with the client's broader demand generation/sales goals. Create first drafts of client documents, plans, or strategic slide decks.
  • Marketing Research: Have an in-depth understanding of marketing methodologies, including online content strategy and development, omnichannel and social media production and management, email, database and content management, and analytics. Identify and educate the agency on best practices across various marketing channels.
  • Staff Management: Manage direct reports day-to-day and across their long-term career growth at the agency. Seek out training opportunities to help them continue to grow their skills and capabilities as well-rounded marketers. Ensure that all staff, whether direct reports or on-account teams deliver optimal client results and are engaged in internal agency initiatives regularly.
  • Agency Operations: Volunteer for projects as time warrants; research and bring new ideas to the team's attention; develop an understanding of all social media platforms and relevant media outlets; and complete and submit accurate timesheets and monthly reports on time. Assist with and support business development efforts when needed.

  • Understanding of Federal IT market/trends
  • Prior marketing agency experience and/or internship
