Job description

Software Engineer 2 - Observability 

We are looking for a skilled Observability Software Engineer to design, implement, and maintain largescale observability platforms that provide deep visibility into distributed systems. You will work across engineering teams to ensure our services are measurable, reliable, performant, and debuggable. This role requires a strong background in software engineering, modern cloud-native observability stacks, and datadriven operational excellence.

What you'll achieve
You will help define and evolve the observability strategy for our services, ensuring engineers have the right insights to build, operate, and scale highquality software. You'll work across teams to deliver robust telemetry, enhance reliability, and enable datadriven operational excellence. 
You will:

  • Build scalable telemetry pipelines using technologies such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, Jaeger, Tempo, or similar.
  • Develop instrumentation libraries, SDKs, agents, and exporters for distributed services.
  • Optimize ingestion, storage, and query performance for highvolume telemetry data.
  • Partner with engineering and SRE teams to define and measure SLIs/SLOs/SLAs.

  • Automate deployments and configuration of observability systems

  • Implement observability frameworks covering metrics, logs, traces, profiling, and events.

Essential Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in a Software Engineering role
  • Strong programming skills in Python
  • Experience with cloudnative platforms (Kubernetes, containers, service mesh architectures)
  • Handson expertise with modern observability stacks (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, ELK/EFK, Datadog, New Relic, etc.).
  • Familiarity and understanding of distributed systems, telemetry data flows, and performance engineering
  • Experience building automation and CI/CD pipelines

  • Bachelor's degree or related experience

Compensation: Dell is committed to Fair and Equitable compensation practices. The Base Salary Range for this role is $122,400 to $158,400
