What is Dell computer deployment?

Dell Computer Deployment refers to the process of setting up, configuring, and installing Dell computers and related hardware or software in an organization or for clients. This typically includes unpacking devices, connecting them to networks, installing operating systems and necessary applications, and ensuring all systems are ready for use. Deployment specialists may also handle data migration, troubleshoot issues, and provide user support during the transition. The goal is to ensure that Dell computers are integrated efficiently and securely into the working environment.

What are some typical challenges faced during Dell computer deployment projects, and how can team members effectively address them?

One common challenge in Dell computer deployment roles is coordinating logistics to ensure the right hardware arrives on schedule and is configured correctly for each user or department. Team members often need to troubleshoot compatibility issues with existing networks or software, which requires clear communication with IT support and end users. Staying organized, following detailed checklists, and documenting each step can help minimize errors and streamline deployments. Collaboration with other IT professionals and flexibility in addressing unexpected technical issues are key to ensuring a smooth deployment process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Dell computer deployment, and why are they important?

Success in Dell Computer Deployment requires strong technical knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and networking, often supported by certifications like CompTIA A+ or Dell EMC Proven Professional. Familiarity with deployment tools such as Microsoft SCCM, imaging software, and asset management systems is typically expected. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help professionals coordinate deployments and resolve issues efficiently. These skills ensure seamless rollouts, minimize downtime, and maintain high client satisfaction during technology transitions.

Job description

Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) builds the products that power infrastructure, solutions, and data management our customers need most. Our teams design and develop the hardware and software that connect infrastructure, accelerate computational workloads, integrate across the stack, protect data continuity, and deliver the platforms, applications, and diagnostics our customers rely on every day at enterprise scale.

Some product builders follow the rules. Ours rewrite them.

Within ISG, innovation isn't just about creating new technology- it's about challenging assumptions and reimagining how work gets done. Engineers define intent, author precise specifications, and orchestrate AI agents that execute at speed and scale. AI is embedded throughout our development process, helping us move faster, learn quicker, and deliver greater impact. Yet the most important contribution remains uniquely human: deciding what to build, designing how it should work, and applying the judgment needed to earn our customers' trust. When your products power critical infrastructure around the world, that responsibility matters.

We move quickly toward the work that matters most. We reward experimentation, encourage bold thinking, and remove unnecessary barriers so great ideas can become reality faster. Our teams embrace a customer-first, first-to-market mindset, transforming rapid feedback into better products and better outcomes. We aren't looking for people who are content with the status quo- we look for builders who question it, improve it, and occasionally rewrite it.

If you're energized by solving complex systems challenges, excited to work alongside AI to amplify your impact, and motivated by the opportunity to shape what's next instead of simply maintaining what's been done before, you'll find your place here.

Mechanical Senior Principal Engineer

Join us as a Mechanical Senior Principal Engineer on our Network Engineering HW team in Franklin, MA to do the best work of your career and make a profound social impact.

Take the first step towards your dream career

Every Dell Technologies team member brings something unique to the table. Here's what we are looking for with this role:

Essential Requirements
  • 15+ years of experience in electro-mechanical product development, with a proven track record leading complex systems from architecture definition through production deployment

  • Deep expertise in air- and liquid-cooling technologies, including hands-on experience designing and integrating rack-level thermal solutions for high-density networking, AI, or data center infrastructure

  • Expert-level proficiency with Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent 3D CAD tools for designing complex sheet metal structures, plastics, die-cast components, and large-scale assemblies

  • Strong system-level understanding of mechanical, thermal, manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and cost tradeoffs, with the ability to drive architecture decisions across multidisciplinary engineering organizations

  • Demonstrated technical leadership influencing product strategy, technology roadmaps, and key engineering decisions while mentoring and developing engineers across global teams

Desirable Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • Experience designing high-density IT rack solutions and rack-scale infrastructure for data center, AI, HPC, or networking applications

  • Experience with liquid-cooled systems, rack-level thermal architectures, and large-scale system integration

Compensation

Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this position is $164k - $226k.

What you'll achieve

Mechanical Engineering drives the architecture, design, and delivery of innovative and manufacturable mechanical solutions for next-generation networking infrastructure. In this role, you will lead the mechanical development of Dell's Network L11 integrated rack solutions while leveraging a strong foundation in Network Switch (L10) product design. You will work across system, thermal, electrical, power, and manufacturing teams to develop rack-scale platforms that support AI, HPC, cloud, and enterprise networking deployments.

You will be responsible for the mechanical architecture, feasibility studies, structural analysis, design validation, and qualification of complex networking systems, including switch platforms, rack integration, cable management, liquid and air cooling infrastructure, serviceability features, and high-density compute and networking environments. The role requires ownership from early concept development through product qualification and manufacturing release, ensuring solutions meet performance, reliability, cost, quality, and compliance objectives. You will also drive mechanical innovation, influence technology roadmaps, and lead the introduction of new design methodologies, materials, and rack-level infrastructure technologies that enable future generations of Dell's networking portfolio.

You will:

  • Lead the mechanical and thermal architecture for next-generation data center infrastructure and high-density rack-scale networking solutions, driving technology strategy from concept through deployment

  • Provide technical leadership across cross-functional engineering teams to develop innovative air- and liquid-cooled platforms that balance performance, reliability, serviceability, manufacturability, and total cost of ownership

  • Define and guide the design of complex mechanical systems and assemblies using advanced CAD, simulation, and engineering analysis tools, including FEA and thermal modeling, while mentoring engineering teams on best practices and design excellence.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies, materials, cooling methodologies, and rack-level architectures, translating customer and business requirements into scalable product roadmaps and differentiated solutions

  • Drive collaboration across global suppliers, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and engineering organizations to resolve technical challenges, influence strategic decisions, and ensure successful execution of products from concept through high-volume production
