What is Delivery Excellence?

Delivery Excellence refers to the consistent achievement of high-quality results in project or service delivery, ensuring that client expectations are met or exceeded. It involves implementing best practices, efficient processes, and continuous improvement to maximize value, minimize risks, and deliver on time and within budget. Professionals in Delivery Excellence focus on optimizing performance, fostering collaboration, and driving accountability across teams to achieve operational excellence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Delivery Excellence?

To excel in Delivery Excellence, you need strong project management abilities, process optimization expertise, and a background in business or operations, often supported by certifications like PMP or Lean Six Sigma. Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira), performance analytics platforms, and quality management systems is typical. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills help you drive improvements and align teams towards shared goals. These competencies ensure consistent, high-quality project delivery and operational efficiency, directly impacting client satisfaction and organizational performance.

How does a Delivery Excellence professional typically collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes?

Delivery Excellence professionals play a pivotal role in aligning project execution with organizational standards and client expectations. They work closely with project managers to establish best practices, monitor progress, and identify areas for process improvement. Regular communication with stakeholders ensures that requirements are understood and met, while risks are proactively managed. This collaboration fosters a culture of continuous improvement, helping teams deliver projects on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards.

Job description

FEQ327R584

Director, Global Delivery Excellence

Databricks Learning & Enablement upskills data and AI teams worldwide so customers, partners, and employees can best leverage Databricks to drive business outcomes. We are hiring a Global Delivery leader to lead our global team and to evolve how we deliver training for an AI-first world. You will own staffing strategy and instructor readiness across our FTE and authorized training partner (ATP) workforce, run an AI-first delivery operation, and advance the shift from traditional, catalog-based instructor-led training toward customized, customer-specific delivery. This role is the right fit if you lead from data, develop best-in-industry instructors, and want to reshape a delivery model rather than just run it.

Scope of Impact

  • Owns the global training delivery function across customer, partner, and internal audiences.
  • Owns instructor staffing and readiness strategy: balances FTE and ATP supply and forecasts skilling, language, and location needs through data analysis and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Translates L&E delivery strategy into execution: FTE-first regional sufficiency, with ATP to fulfill additional needs.
  • Leads the evolution of the delivery model toward AI-first operations and customized, customer-specific training.
  • Influences cross-functionally across Training Ops, Curriculum and Certification, and field GTM.

Leadership

  • Sets Vision: Connects the team's daily delivery work to L&E's mission and to the shift toward an AI-first operating model.
  • Sets Strategy: Sets 12-month goals, plans, and measures for delivery capacity and quality, and makes FTE-versus-ATP trade-offs grounded in demand data.
  • Builds Teams: Hires, coaches, and develops a high-performing global instructor team, and builds the skilling pathways that keep instructor capability ahead of demand.
  • Drives Execution: Delivers training at quality and at sustainable pace, running proactive, data-driven capacity planning in place of reactive intake.
  • Champions Culture: Makes company-first capacity decisions and protects customer experience, including virtual-first scheduling that minimizes customer travel.

Skills & Expertise

  • Technical bar: Demonstrated depth in data, analytics, and AI and the Databricks platform; Databricks certification preferred.
  • Workforce and capacity planning: Balances an employed and partner instructor workforce against forecasted demand by skilling area, language, and location.
  • Data fluency: Uses utilization, instructor quality scoring, CSAT, and coverage data to direct the team and defend resourcing decisions.
  • AI-first operating model: Applies AI across the delivery operation, including forecasting, scheduling, instructor prep, assessment, and instructor enablement.
  • Instructor development: Designs and runs instructor development and train-the-trainer programs, and evaluates delivery effectiveness.

What we look for

  • Multiple years of people-leadership directly managing technical instructors, including a global, multi-region team.
  • Experience across the full training lifecycle: design, delivery, and evaluation.
  • A track record building and scaling instructor capacity across both employed and partner or contract workforces.
  • Proven technical depth in data, analytics, and AI; Databricks certification preferred.
  • May occasionally support selling the training offering to customers; this is secondary to the staffing, skilling, and delivery-model mandate.

How success is measured

  • Instructor quality scoring, CSAT, HDUs delivered, Learners enabled, Training delivery backlog, and regional capacity coverage.
