National Grid is hiring a Delivery Manager. This role is designated as hybrid, with an expectation of one or two days per month in our offices in Waltham, MA or Brooklyn, NY. Requirements may vary based on business needs and company policy.   

Job Purpose

National Grid is seeking a Delivery Manager to lead a team of Project and Program Managers in delivering business outcomes across a critical IT portfolio supporting Gas operations. This role ensures that project delivery aligns with corporate governance, standards, and frameworks (e.g., PMO governance, Agile practices, security and compliance), while tailoring delivery approaches to the portfolio's specific needs.

The Delivery Manager will drive predictable, high-quality delivery; enable informed decision-making through transparent, outcome-focused reporting; and foster a high-performing, accountable team culture.

Key Accountabilities

In your first month you will:

  • Develop a strong understanding of National Grid's investment governance model
  • Build working knowledge of the Project Delivery Framework and key dependencies across functions (e.g., Architecture, Risk Management, Service Transition)
  • Understand how work is structured within Gas IT, including the relationships between rate cases, budgets, value streams, investments, and the current fiscal-year investment plan
  • Assume day-to-day leadership of the Gas IT Project Delivery team

In your first 3 months you will:

  • Assess current delivery processes and team capabilities to identify gaps
  • Develop a structured improvement roadmap with defined outcomes, success metrics, and measurable targets

In your first 6 months, you will:

  • Implement targeted improvements to address at least one key gap in process or capability
  • Establish consistent monitoring and reporting of project and portfolio performance, including risks and issues, with clear recommendations for corrective action.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Project and Program Managers to ensure successful delivery across the IT portfolio
  • Ensure project execution aligns with corporate strategy, governance, and delivery frameworks
  • Translate enterprise and portfolio-level guidance into practical, portfolio-specific delivery standards and practices
  • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of multiple initiatives, ensuring alignment to scope, schedule, quality, and budget commitments
  • Partner with portfolio leadership and business stakeholders to align delivery with business priorities and outcomes
  • Support rate case planning and submissions by providing accurate delivery insights, timelines, and impact assessments
  • Drive continuous improvement in delivery processes, tools, and ways of working
  • Enable effective communication and coordination across teams, business units, and external partners
  • Ensure adherence to governance, risk management, and compliance requirements
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, and high performance within the team

Qualifications

Required:

  • Proven experience (10+ years) in delivery management or senior project management roles within IT portfolios or large-scale IT programs.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing multiple project managers or project teams simultaneously.
  • Solid understanding of IT project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) and tools.
  • Experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders, including cross-functional teams and external vendors.
  • Experience in continuous improvement initiatives related to project delivery processes and tools.

Preferred:

  • MBA or master's degree in relevant field preferred
  • PMP Certified
  • SAFE Agile Certifications

Additional valued experiences:

  • Energy/utility industry with understanding of Rate Cases

Salary

Waltham: $148k - $173k a year

Brooklyn: $158k - $185k a year
