Position Title:Deli Team Member
Department:Deli
Reports To:Deli Manager / Shift Lead
FLSA Status:Non-Exempt


Position Overview

The Deli Team Member plays a key role in delivering excellent food quality and customer service within our deli department. This position is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving food items, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and supporting overall deli operations. Flexibility, teamwork, and a strong work ethic are essential.


Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Cooking

  • Prepare, season, cook, bake, and fry food items according to company recipes and safety standards.
  • Operate fryers, ovens, steam tables, and other kitchen equipment safely and correctly.
  • Follow proper portioning and presentation guidelines.
  • Assist with daily prep work, including chopping, slicing, and assembling ingredients.

Service & Customer Interaction

  • Serve customers at the steam table line with speed, accuracy, and a positive attitude.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked service line at all times.
  • Answer customer questions about menu items and provide recommendations when appropriate.

Dishwashing & Cleaning

  • Wash dishes, utensils, pans, and equipment using proper sanitation procedures.
  • Keep workstations, prep areas, and storage areas clean and orderly.
  • Follow all sanitation, handwashing, and food-safety regulations.

Operations & Teamwork

  • Assist with opening and closing duties as assigned.
  • Check temperatures, rotate stock, and ensure proper food storage.
  • Communicate any product shortages or equipment issues to the shift lead or manager.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while supporting other team members as needed.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a deli, cafeteria, or kitchen environment preferred but not required.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions.
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs and handle hot equipment safely.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-first mindset.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work in a team environment.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Fast-paced kitchen/deli environment requiring regular standing, lifting, bending, and reaching.
  • Must be available for various shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
