Description
Mission Contribution: Providing access to fresh food, produce, and meat at reasonable prices with an emphasis on providing opportunities to the community in which the Market serves.
Summary: Responsible for the operation of the Deli Department in the absence of the Deli Manager. To assist with training and demonstrating staff to be safe, friendly, and efficient. Providing leadership and motivation within Market on Melrose, to ensure consistent and world-class customer experiences through the superior show of quality and friendly customer service. To assist with ensuring product is properly stocked and fresh in the Deli Department and that the departmental operations is maintained to meet department standards.
Essential Functions:
  1. Support the Deli Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring the department is well-stocked and meets sales goals through effective merchandising and inventory management.
  2. Collaborate with the Deli Manager to maintain deli inventory levels and organization, planning and supervising the inventory process to maximize sales and minimize discrepancies.
  3. Work alongside the Deli Manager, General Manager, and Receiving Department to ensure product quality, proper pricing, and compliance with vendor conditions.
  4. Partner with leadership to effectively train and develop deli team members, acting as a resource for their roles and ensuring ongoing professional growth.
  5. Manage staffing, including hiring, training, scheduling, and forecasting labor needs, ensuring proper store coverage.
  6. Conduct regular assessments of deli operations, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety and sanitation protocols.
  7. Coordinate and communicate effectively with all deli staff members to ensure smooth operations and address any issues that arise.
  8. Assist the Deli Manager in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and food safety guidelines.
  9. Ensure safety guidelines are strictly followed to protect both customers and employees and to safeguard company assets.
  10. Promote a customer-focused environment, ensuring that all customers receive outstanding service, and that the store is recognized for excellence in customer experience, using the tag line "Thank you for choosing the Market on Melrose" at every opportunity.
  11. Maintain in-depth knowledge of deli products, responding to customer inquiries and making recommendations, including offering product samples.
  12. Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
  13. Attends in-service and related training as assigned.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned by Management.
  15. Adheres to all Goodwill personnel policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and customer service skills
  • Solid understanding of grocery store operations
  • Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
  • Leadership experience with direct reports.
  • Ability to use technical information to solve problems
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:
  • At least one year of experience in supermarket management or a comparable retail environment.
  • High school diploma or GED certificate required.
  • Prior experience in deli operations or retail environment preferred.
  • Certified Food Safety Manager accreditation through the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar organization is required or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment, with ongoing compliance throughout employment.

Special Requirements:
  • Must provide cell phone for specified work responsibilities including the use of a phone-based application for authentication
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to provide proof of insurance is required to drive personal vehicle on company business. Additionally, an acceptable motor vehicle record based on Goodwill guidelines is required to drive a company vehicle.
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen prior to employment.
  • A background check required during employment based on company policy or specific job responsibilities.
