Job description

Title:
Senior Radar Engineer
Program Summary
KBR's Missile, Aviation, and Ground Systems (MAGS) division delivers mission engineering solutions for critical U.S. Army programs, specializing in aviation and ground systems, integrated air and missile defense, and threat and target systems. As a trusted partner of the U.S. Department of War, MAGS provides innovative, technology-driven solutions to enhance national security. With a global presence and a strong ethical framework, KBR ensures secure, effective, and mission-ready capabilities worldwide.
Job Summary
KBR is seeking an experienced Senior Radar Engineer to support Air and Missile Defense programs through technical leadership and subject matter expertise in radar systems, sensor integration, and performance analysis. This role is responsible for evaluating state-of-the-art radar technologies, conducting technical research and trade studies, developing performance assessment methodologies, and supporting the integration of next-generation sensors into existing Army air and missile defense architectures.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with U.S. Government customers, industry partners, prime contractors, and technical stakeholders to assess radar performance, evaluate contractor-developed algorithms, develop analytical tools, and provide recommendations regarding system capabilities, requirements, risks and operational effectiveness. Responsibilities include supporting major technical and programmatic reviews while serving as a trusted advisor on radar-related engineering and operational matters.
As a technical lead, the Senior Radar Engineer will coordinate cross-functional engineering efforts, working in partnership with functional managers and program leadership to ensure successful execution of assigned programs. The position also includes providing technical direction, mentorship, and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers while fostering collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines and stakeholder organizations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct radar and mission-level performance analyses, engineering assessments, and technology evaluations to support Air and Missile Defense programs.
  • Perform sensor system analysis, architecture assessments, and engineering trade studies to inform design and acquisition decisions.
  • Evaluate system performance, technical risk, operational effectiveness, and technology readiness levels (TRLs).
  • Develop, analyze, and assess radar algorithms, performance metrics, modeling approaches, simulation environments, and analytical methodologies.
  • Design and implement analytical tools, automation scripts, and data analysis solutions using MATLAB and/or Python.
  • Review and assess technical documentation, system specifications, requirements documents, CDRLs, Statements of Work (SOWs), and Performance Work Statements (PWSs).
  • Provide technical recommendations, engineering assessments, and risk analyses to Government stakeholders and program leadership.
  • Analyze complex technical data and prepare reports, briefings, white papers, and decision-support recommendations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams across systems engineering, software, integration, test, and operational domains.
  • Serve as a technical liaison to Government customers, supporting program execution and collaborating with contractors and industry subject matter experts.
  • Support technical and programmatic reviews, including design reviews, readiness assessments, and milestone decision events.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in radar signal processing, radar systems engineering, RF engineering, radar operations, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in radar system design, performance assessment, technology assessment, and system troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of radar theory, system architecture, and key performance parameters and metrics.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB and/or Python for modeling, simulation, data analysis, and engineering tool development.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 10% in support of program and customer requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 20+ years of progressive experience in radar engineering, radar systems development, signal processing, or related defense systems engineering disciplines.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Experience supporting U.S. Army Air and Missile Defense programs and collaborating with Government customers and industry partners.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of radar signal processing algorithms and solutions.
  • Working knowledge of advanced radar concepts and techniques including but not limited to: Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) detection algorithms, advanced beamforming techniques, Moving Target Detection (MTD), Moving Target Indication (MTI), Pulse-Doppler radar processing, Radar Cross Section (RCS) analysis, Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), Electronic Protection (EP), target discrimination, and Non-Cooperative Target Recognition (NCTR).
