Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is hiring a Lead Model Based Systems Engineer (MBSE)/Digital Engineer to work in Springfield, VA or St. Louis, MO.
Responsibilities:
Serve as a senior technical advisor to the NGA Chief Architect and provide hands-on leadership for the modeling, Digital Thread strategy, lifecycle traceability and ecosystem integration that underpin the DEE.
Help engineer the evolution from fragmented tools and disconnected data toward a unified, model-driven ecosystem anchored by an enterprise authoritative data source, enabling decision-grade engineering and mission operations.
Guide MBSE/UAF/SysML modeling efforts, coordinate mission engineering threads, and directly shape the architectural and data integration backbone for NGA's enterprise-level Digital Twin.
Leads a team of MBSE engineers and collaborates deeply with the Enterprise Architect, data Architect, Platform/Cloud engineers, mission engagement leads, cyber team, governance stakeholders, and vendor partners.
You will be instrumental in building NGA's EA Digital Twin capability, modeling the future-state enterprise, and delivering the unified Digital Engineering environment the IC and DoW have sought for years.
You will operate at the strategic level while remaining deeply technical, becoming a critical force multiplier for the Chief Architect and for NGA's Digital Transformation journey.
DE/MBSE Leadership: Serve as the enterprise lead for Digital Engineering and MBSE, driving standards, governance, and model centric transformation across NGA.
Team Management: Lead and mentor a high-performing team of DE/MBSE engineers to advance modeling, integration, and ecosystem maturation throughout the organization.
Cross-Functional Integration: Partner seamlessly with the tech lead, enterprise architect, data engineers, cloud/platform teams, cyber professionals, and mission engagement leads to deliver cohesive enterprise outcomes.
Strategic Advisory: Advise the Chief Architect and senior leadership with continuous assessments, insights, and recommendations that strengthen DE/MBSE capability and accelerate digital transformation agency-wide.
Systems Engineering: Model end-to-end enterprise solutions - spanning capabilities, services, APIs, workflows, and data models - to architect a future-ready, resilient DEE.
Digital Thread Development: Collaborate with platform and data engineers to deploy applications, build Digital Threads, and automate pipelines that unify authoritative data sources and deliver high-fidelity engineering insights.
Vendor Engagement: Act as a key technical liaison with industry partners, leading technical exchanges, reconciling competing architecture, and driving consensus toward integrated, mission-focused solutions.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, systems architecture or enterprise architecture including MBSE
DoD Compliance: Desired to meet DoD 8140/8570 requirements for an IAM Level II position (Ex: ISC2 CISSP or Sec+)
5+ years of experience leading systems engineering projects
Deep hands-on experience with SysML (v1.x minimum; v2 highly desired) and enterprise UAF modeling
Proficiency with Cameo Enterprise Architect, Teamwork Cloud, IBM Rhapsody or similar tool Experience modeling use cases and their associated workflows
Prior experience working within Scrum or Agile development environments
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with UAF and early adoption of SysMLv2 (including textual modeling tools such as SysIDE).
Experience integrating MBSE tools with Requirements Management Tools, MS&A, CAD/CAE and Digital Thread technologies (Syndeia, ModelCenter, etc.).
Prior trusted advisor experience supporting senior government technical leadership.
Ability to automate model and data collection to assess DEE current state and quantify ROI relative to mission outcomes.
Broad familiarity with the larger DEE tech stack (requirements tools, MS&A, DevSecOps platforms, EA/BI systems, data fabric technologies).
Experience with data modeling and ontologies.
Self-starter that can automate data gathering to assess current state of a Digital Ecosystem and to assess ROI of assets vs mission outcomes.
Broader understanding and experience with larger DEE tech stack including requirements management, MS&A, SDLC/DevSecOps, EA tools, data fabric.
