TITLE: Assistant Speech and Debate Coach
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To assist the Head Speech and Debate Coach, to help each participating
student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of
communication and an increased level of self-esteem.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• NSDA/NFHS Speech and Debate Coaching Certificate.
• Thorough knowledge of speech and debate coaching principles and practice.
• Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NSDA, NCFL, and WVSDA as it pertains to Speech and Debate competitions.
• Strong background in public speaking and debate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
• Coaches, under the direction of the head coach, individual participants in the skills necessary for achievement in Speech and Debate, including critiquing performances and editing pieces/cases.
• Assists with scheduling and running of practice sessions.
• Assist in enforcing discipline and appropriate behavior among participants.
• Attend parent meetings as directed by the head coach.
• Attend tournaments as event judge, Tab room staff, or chaperone.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, including but not limited to, financial accounting, event planning, team management.
• Be familiar with and follow the guidelines established in the Ohio County Board of Education Regulation 4020.01 Extracurricular Activities Assignments.
