Description
Hill International Trucks, the tri-state areas leading medium- and heavy-duty truck and trailer dealership, is currently seeking
a detail-oriented and driven Experienced Assistant Controller or Financial Controller to support the financial operations of our heavy-duty truck dealership organization and all its businesses. This role works closely with the Financial Controller to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and support the overall financial health of the organization. The ideal candidate has dealership or similar inventory-based accounting experience. This position will be a training role for the Financial Controller position in less 6 months to 1 year.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Controller in overseeing all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and proper reconciliation of all accounts.
  • Monitor and analyze dealership financial performance, including truck sales, parts, service, and leasing operations.
  • Maintain and reconcile inventory accounting for new and used trucks, parts, and equipment, including coordination with operations teams.
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturer reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Oversee internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis and reporting to management.
  • Collaborate with department managers to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial transactions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and implement best practices in accounting and financial management.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, accounting standards, and dealership management systems (DMS).

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (REQUIRED)
  • 3-7+ years of accounting experience in a senior accounting or financial controller role (REQUIRED)
  • Multiple locations and/or automotive/truck dealership industry experience PREFERRED
  • Prior Controller responsibilities or ability to transition into this role in under 6 months PREFERRED
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with inventory accounting
  • Proficiency in accounting software and dealership management systems
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
