Job description

Position Summary
The Tax Senior is responsible for preparing and reviewing tax returns, managing day-to-day client engagements, and supporting the development of junior staff. This role requires strong technical skills, the ability to work independently, and increasing client interaction, while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to deadlines.
Positions available in either 1 Penn Plaza, NY or 50 Jericho Quadrange, Jericho, NY
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Review
  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns, including:
    • Partnerships (Form 1065)
    • S-Corporations (Form 1120-S)
    • C-Corporations (Form 1120)
    • Individuals (Form 1040), including high-net-worth clients
  • Analyze financial data and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Identify basic to moderately complex tax issues and escalate as appropriate
  • Ensure workpapers are complete, organized, and in compliance with firm standards

Client Engagement & Communication
  • Serve as a day-to-day contact for assigned clients
  • Communicate with clients to request information, clarify issues, and follow up on open items
  • Assist in addressing client questions and resolving routine tax matters
  • Begin identifying tax planning opportunities and bring them forward to Managers/Partners

Workflow & Deadline Management
  • Manage multiple engagements simultaneously and meet strict filing deadlines
  • Track progress of returns and proactively communicate delays or issues
  • Ensure all time is entered and released daily in accordance with firm policy
  • Utilize workflow systems to manage assignments and status updates

Technical Development
  • Conduct tax research on moderately complex issues and document findings
  • Stay current on tax law changes and apply updates to client work
  • Develop deeper knowledge in specific areas (e.g., pass-through entities, multi-state taxation)

Team Support & Supervision
  • Review work prepared by Associates and provide clear, constructive feedback
  • Train and mentor junior staff on technical and process-related matters
  • Assist Managers with engagement planning and staff delegation
  • Promote accountability and quality within the team

Operational Contribution
  • Follow firm processes related to time entry, billing support, and engagement tracking
  • Identify inefficiencies or process gaps and recommend improvements
  • Support firm initiatives, including training, technology adoption, and process standardization

Qualifications
Education & Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (required)
  • CPA license or actively pursuing (strongly preferred)

Experience
  • 3-5+ years of public accounting experience
  • Demonstrated experience preparing business and individual tax returns
  • Exposure to reviewing staff work and interacting with clients

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in tax software such as CCH Axcess
  • Experience with workflow tools such as XCM, Engagement
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
