Job description

Job Summary

The Master Level Clinician provides independent, consultative clinical support to adult residential and community-based programs serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those with complex behavioral and mental health needs. Clinicians play a key role in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) in alignment with DDS regulations and best practice standards, ensuring behavioral supports are person-centered, rightsaffirming, and clinically sound.

This role offers a high degree of professional autonomy, allowing clinicians to exercise clinical judgment in conducting assessments, developing Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Support Plans when indicated, and guiding residential teams in consistent, ethical implementation. Clinicians work across assigned clusters and programs, balancing direct clinical involvement with mentorship, consultation, and systems-level collaboration to promote regulatory compliance, staff competency, and positive outcomes for individuals.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working within adult residential settings, understands the clinical and regulatory complexities of supporting adults with ID/DD, values interdisciplinary teamwork, and is motivated by helping individuals live safer, more fulfilling lives through evidence-based, PBIS-informed, and person-centered approaches.

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Intervention

  • Provide direct clinical support to adults with ID/DD within residential and day programs
  • Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and develop individualized Positive Behavior Support Plans grounded in PBIS and trauma-informed care
  • Monitor effectiveness of behavior support strategies and adjust plans collaboratively with teams

Consultation, Training & Mentorship

  • Serve as a clinical consultant to residential and day program staff, supervisors, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Provide hands-on coaching and training to ensure fidelity of behavior support plans
  • Mentor and support newer or less experienced clinicians
  • Support the planning, delivery, and ongoing evaluation of PBIS, SafetyCare, and incident reporting trainings for new hires and existing staff across programs.

Collaboration & Systems-Level Work

  • Facilitate Universal Cluster Team meetings and contribute to Tier II/Tier III clinical review processes
  • Participate in Human Rights Committee and Peer Review meetings as a clinical representative
  • Collaborate with families, DDS staff, DPPC, and community partners to ensure coordinated care

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of adult intellectual and developmental disabilities, including co-occurring mental health diagnoses
  • Ability to apply behavioral and counseling frameworks in real-world residential settings
  • Comfortable providing clinical guidance to direct care staff with varied levels of experience
  • Skilled at balancing structure with flexibility in dynamic environments
  • Confident communicator who can translate clinical concepts into practical strategies
  • Sense of humor, patience, and resilience when supporting complex individuals

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Behavior Analysis, Special Education, or related field
  • Independent or associate licensure preferred (LICSW, LCSW, LMHC, or BCBA); candidates actively pursuing licensure strongly encouraged to apply
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, with preference for experience in adult residential or community-based ID/DD services
  • Demonstrated comfort working with individuals with complex behavioral or mental health needs
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and ability to travel between program sites
