Job description

Novelis is seeking a highly motivated Overhead Crane Technician to join our team in Bay Minette, AL. As part of a team of experts in maintenance and reliability, you will share responsibilities for maintaining overhead cranes, hoist, jibs, monorail systems, horizontal lifelines, and below-the-hook devices. This team is chartered with planning and performing preventive, corrective, and unplanned maintenance of these systems. This position will directly impact performance of the plants production equipment and requires dedication, commitment, and detailed attention towards a safe and elite environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of a preventive maintenance program of our lifting fleet that matches the plant’s needs.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs of lifting equipment such as, but not limited to: OSHA/ANSI inspections, brake adjustments, lubrication, wire rope replacements, gearcase maintenance, motor control, PLC, and VFD fixing and replacements, wheel replacements, welding, and fabrication
  • Coordinate with plant personnel and others as needed to organize the shop and facility supplies for ease of accessibility.
  • Develop material list for assigned projects.
  • Complete shift reports, inspection documentation, work orders, and mobile equipment inspections.
  • Review reports, inspections, and work history then collaborate with teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Depict a safe lifting culture by reporting unsafe conditions immediately and supporting corrective actions with a hands-on approach.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have knowledge of industrial plant infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with Overhead Cranes, Jibs, Monorails, and Below-the-hook Lifting Devices
  • Overhead crane inspection certification and 2,000 hours of confirmed experience maintaining overhead cranes
  • Overhead crane operator certification.
  • Understanding of governing codes and standards such as OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and NEC
  • Familiarity with motor controls up to 480VAC and 250VDC.
  • PLC and VFD experience.
  • Mechanical knowledge such as gearcases, sheaves, wheel bearings, drivetrains, and wire ropes.
  • Welding and fabrication.
  • Ability to read wiring schematics and blueprints.
  • Ability to operate aerial and forklifts and to work from heights up to 50'.
  • This position requires technical and manufacturing skills, but also a creative and flexible demeanor.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, project and power point programs.

  • Experience with SAP, Maximo, or Oracle.
  • AWS D14.1 Structural Welding Certification
