Electrical Technician 

Summary

We are looking for an Electrical Technician to repair, test, adjust, or install electronic equipment, such as industrial controls, transmitters, and antennas. 

What we do:

SMS group is an industrial equipment manufacturer for the steel industry. We design, build, and service equipment and sleep plants across the globe with a strong technical services/machine shop network in North America.

The right candidate will:

  • Be a safety minded person who enjoys hands on work.
  • Ability to assemble and disassemble various components.
  • Document daily activities 
  • Must possess good mechanical skills in daily operations.
  • Must be courteous and work well with others

Knowledge & Background:

  • Performs installation, building, testing, calibration, troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical components of a variety of production components and plant related equipment. On job training to be provided
  • Ability to use general hand tools and general assembly task not related to electrical.
  • Ability to work off-sit when needed
  • Strong background in electrical 
  • Work and consult with clients, vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, product and production specifications, manufacturing capabilities, or project status.
  • Ability to handle stairs and lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to use measuring tools such as micrometers, tape measures, and scales.
  • Ability to use electrical testing equipment such as digital multimeter, ammeter, loop calibrator, and oscilloscope
  • Ability to read and comprehend assembly prints and industrial electrical schematics.
  • Cable-building experience - is a big plus
  • Some experience with troubleshooting PLC and automation systems is a plus
  • Building cables to print (measuring, soldering/crimping, sealing, testing with multimeter) 
  • Assembling industrial instrumentation according to schematic.
  • Testing/replacing 3PH AC and/or DC motors on industrial equipment
  • Occasional testing/replacing instrumentation at customer sites (Field work)

  • Electrical degree or equivalent experience
  • Attention to Detail — Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Limited business travel to customer’s workshops will be required.
  • Ability to learn data and modeling programs
  • Self-motivation to identify, analyze and independently work to find solutions to flow issues is essential.
  • Ability to learn and understand critical processes and operations in assigned areas.
  • Resourcefulness in accomplishing objectives and completing tasks.
