Position Summary

The Traffic and Parking Supervisor oversees all active traffic & parking staff working an event. Arena Traffic & Parking Staff are responsible for managing event day traffic and operations within the parking lots surrounding Chesapeake Arena on the campus of UMBC. Arena Traffic & Parking staff will be the first point of contact in providing a memorable first impression for all guests and employees by providing direction and answering any questions guests may have.

This role pays an hourly rate of $22.00-$26.00

About the Venue

Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena is located on the campus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The 5,000-seat arena is the home to the UMBC Retriever Men's and Women's basketball teams and Women's volleyball. The multi-purpose venue is managed by OVG and hosts a variety of events including concerts, commencements, family shows, community events, consumer shows, featured speakers, and banquets.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and set up traffic and parking signage in advance if guest arrival for events.
  • Ensure safe and efficient traffic flow for all guests.
  • Control/monitor entrance and exit of all guests and employees in and out of the parking lots.
  • Supervise Staff and Provide all guests a positive first impression by offering excellent customer service.
  • Be familiar with ParkWhiz app and other applicable software, so you can supervise staff using this equipment during events.
  • Supervise and Address all problems and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Keep all traffic flowing both in and out of the parking lots.
  • Supervise staff who will monitor parking lots for safety and security of guests, employees and vehicles.
  • Provide staff with information to properly provide arena guests with directions and other venue information.
  • Provide staff with information to properly direct guests and employees to available parking spaces while maximizing the amount of vehicles per lot.
  • Provide staff with information to properly direct guests on how to properly pay for parking when applicable.
  • Keep Management updated on traffic and parking status during all shifts.
  • Provide Management with suggestions for improvement as necessary.
  • Maintain a neat and clean appearance during all scheduled shifts.
  • Be knowledgeable about arena emergency evacuation plan in order to safely assist guests during the unlikely event of an emergency.
Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of prior parking & traffic experience required.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Ability to problem solve efficiently.
  • Must be polite, friendly and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to stand or walk constantly for an extended length of time.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Effective oral communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects without assistance.
