Description
The
Central Church / Water's Edge Residency is a hands-on ministry experience designed to develop the next generation of healthy, skilled, and spiritually grounded leaders for the local church. Residents serve alongside experienced ministry leaders while receiving intentional coaching, leadership development, and spiritual formation.
This residency is built to help individuals clarify their calling, grow in character and competence, and prepare for long-term vocational ministry-whether at Central Church, within the Water's Edge Network, or beyond.
Residency length ranges from 1 to 3 years, depending on calling, ministry track, development pace, and mutual discernment between the resident and leadership.
Purpose
To provide
side-by-side coaching and development in:
  • Ministry skill and leadership capacity
  • Spiritual formation and personal health
  • Vision alignment and organizational leadership

All while being fully immersed in the life and mission of Central Church and the Water's Edge Network.
Residency Structure
Duration
  • 1-3 year residency, beginning in January or June
  • Length determined through evaluation, calling clarity, and leadership readiness

Weekly Commitment
  • 29 hours per week, including weekends

Time Breakdown
Spiritual Growth & Development
  • Group development gatherings
  • Leadership and spiritual formation readings/assignments
  • Weekly one-on-one coaching with a Resident Coach

Ministry Leadership & Execution (25+ hours/week)
Residents serve within a primary ministry area under the supervision of a Ministry Leader and Resident Coach.

Residents may serve in one of the following ministry tracks:
  • Kids Ministry
  • Student Ministry (Middle School / High School)
  • Young Adults
  • Worship
  • Spiritual Formation
  • Guest Services & Operations
  • Creative & Communications
  • Campus or Network Support Roles

Development Plan
The residency development plan is designed to grow spiritual leaders who are healthy, self-aware, and mission-focused.
Key Components
One-on-One Coaching
  • Each resident is assigned a Resident Coach
  • Focus on spiritual health, leadership growth, and ministry skill development

Weekly Resident Gatherings
  • Teaching on leadership, character, theology, culture, and ministry systems
  • Understanding how Central Church and Water's Edge function as a unified movement

Communication & Leadership Opportunities
  • Platform communication (as appropriate)
  • Team leadership, teaching, and facilitation experiences

Ministry Responsibilities
  • Serve as a key contributor within a designated ministry area
  • Lead specific ministry initiatives or projects under supervision
  • Shepherd volunteers and participants with care and excellence
  • Participate fully in church life, culture, and rhythms
  • Carry additional responsibilities as assigned by the Resident Coach

Residents may be given opportunities to function as a primary leader over ministry initiatives as readiness and trust grow.
