JOB TITLE: Transportation/Logistics Planner

JOB PURPOSE:
This position is a Transportation /Logistics Planner helping to provide clients and customers with strategic and cost-effective supply chain solutions while being a lead member of a dynamic logistics team.
CRITICAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Providing daily management over client shipments, resulting in cost savings through mode and carrier optimization.
  • Handle numerous daily inbound and outbound transportation requests via phone and email.
  • Possess strong solid understanding of day-to-day business in LTL and Truckload transportation and distribution concepts.
  • Ensure proper carriers are used to improve core carrier compliance and savings.
  • Ensure invoicing is handled correctly.
  • Assist emergency shipping requests by fulfilling expedited requirements accordingly to various guidelines.
  • Serve as trainer and mentor for other Logistic Team Members.
  • Follow and reinforce client rules, parameters, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide reports to internal and external customers as required.
  • Ability to work rotating schedule for our On Call coverage to assist our client base after business hours. The coverage is handled outside the office on a weekly basis (current rotation is approx. 8 times per year).
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
SUPPORTING DUTIES TO THE CRITICAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Experience using multi-line phones, Windows based programs, internet, and multi shared inbox systems and dual monitors.
  • Proficiency with Windows operating system.
  • Requires confidence and independent decision-making skills to problem-solve, juggle competing priorities, and provide accurate and responsive customer service.
  • Possess a solid understanding of day-to-day business and transportation concepts.
  • Ability to quickly assess client situations and escalate to management when needed.
  • Strong concept of intermediate Math.
  • Strong sense of urgency and follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in transportation routing, dispatching, or freight management, job functions in the Less Than Truckload or Truckload field.
  • Previous experience with working in a Transportation Management System (TMS)
