Day Shift Robotics Simulator information

What is a day shift robotics simulator?

Day Shift Robotics Simulators are professionals who operate and oversee the use of robotic simulation software or equipment during daytime working hours. They ensure that robotic systems are tested, programmed, and optimized in a virtual environment before implementation on the production floor. This role is crucial for identifying issues, improving efficiency, and reducing real-world risks or downtime. Day Shift Robotics Simulators often collaborate with engineers and technicians to update simulation parameters and analyze performance data.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a day shift robotics simulator?

To thrive as a Day Shift Robotics Simulator, you need a solid background in robotics, automation, and computer science, often supported by a relevant degree or technical certification. Familiarity with simulation software, robotic programming languages (such as ROS or Python), and industrial control systems is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you interpret simulation results and collaborate with engineering teams. These abilities ensure accurate testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of robotic systems for efficient day shift operations.

What are some common challenges faced by day shift robotics simulators, and how can they be addressed?

Day Shift Robotics Simulators often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting unexpected errors during simulation runs, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of rapidly evolving robotics software, and ensuring accurate data collection for analysis. To address these, it's important to develop strong problem-solving skills, actively participate in team knowledge-sharing sessions, and regularly review system updates or best practices. Collaborating closely with robotics engineers and maintenance teams can also help quickly resolve technical issues and minimize downtime.

What is the difference between Day Shift Robotics Simulator vs Day Shift Robotics Technician?

Job description

Job Description

The role:

The Project Industrial Engineer is a systems-driven individual who is an integral part of daily and future manufacturing operations. The Project Industrial Engineer will lead initiatives to eliminate the waste of time, money, materials, person-hours, machine time, energy, and other resources that do not generate value at Spring Hill GPS.

Work is of a technical nature and focused on making complex manufacturing processes more efficient, which involves understanding the systematic cross functionality of several departments within Spring Hill GPS and the General Motors enterprise. The Project Industrial Engineer will primarily serve as a leader for complex automation projects, which includes collaborating with several organizations to implement automated cells, collaborative robots, and material automation. The Project Industrial Engineer will lead and partner with others to develop the system design of plant processes that will be impacted by these automation projects, including executing rebalance, layout design, and automated and manual workflow design initiatives. The Project Industrial Engineer will also be responsible for tracking project milestones and collaborating with Headquarters engineering groups and area leaders to develop strategic execution timelines and plans.

The Project Industrial Engineer will collaborate with several in-plant departments, Headquarters engineering organizations, UAW team members, and third-party suppliers and contractors.

The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is critical to your success at General Motors. Significant use of independent judgment is required, as well as the ability to think critically and creatively to solve problems and drive projects forward. Exceptional relationship building, communication, and organizational skills are needed to effectively plan and execute complex projects.

Additionally, a strong systems-based mindset, knowledge of automation systems (collaborative robots, automation cells, and material automation), and exceptional project management skills are required.

What you'll do:

  • Manage, plan, and execute large-scale manufacturing projects that involve the introduction of robotic cells, cobots, and material automation systems by collaborating with in-plant departments and Headquarters engineering groups
  • Develop robust manufacturing systems and make modifications to current systems to support the installation and sustainment of automation
  • Evaluate project feasibility, capability, and ROI by performing cycle time analysis and providing critical data to model simulations and to develop systems
  • Coordinate with Headquarters engineering groups to develop business cases, Statements of Work (SOW), and Statements of Requirement (SOR) for new projects
  • Track project milestones, critical paths, escalations, manpower support requirements, and timelines to ensure project planning and execution align with business objectives
  • Partner with area leaders and Headquarters engineering groups to strategically develop interim and long-term project execution plans and milestone requirements
  • Participate in safety buyoff processes, including g-Risks and g-Comply, for new equipment and automation
  • Travel to equipment suppliers as needed to support the runoff process
  • Support the automation installation process including Start of Regular Production (SORP)
  • Lead the revision of assembly line flow and build sequence to support automation and rebalance projects according to the Engine Assembly Document (EAD)
  • Lead the revision of workstation, equipment, and material storage layouts to accommodate automation installation
  • Support the configuration of automation workflows within robotic cells, with material automation, and with material pull systems
  • Support tool design, lift assist design, material packaging design, and material presentation design
  • Strategize manual backup processes to ensure production targets are met
  • Strategize and execute long term automation sustainability plans, including synthesizing preventative maintenance needs, collaborating with teams to plan spare parts, and developing standardized work
  • Design work operations that meet safety, ergonomic, quality, takt, and efficiency requirements

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related degree, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex problems
  • Experience leading large and difficult continuous improvement projects with a high level of autonomy
  • Knowledge of robotic systems (robotic cells, cobots, or material automation) or general programming
  • Proficiency in labor optimization tools and time study analysis
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or computer-aided drafting and layout tools
  • Ability to work off-shift, weekends, or overtime to support project implementations or as needed

What will give you a competitive edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Proficiency in human factors engineering, safety engineering, or ergonomic analysis
  • Experience with Throughput Improvement Processes (TIP)
  • Experience in data or statistical analysis
  • Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification
