About The Role

The Senior Python Developer (Migration Lead) will spearhead the end-to-end migration of our risk analytics platform from SAS to a Python-based technology stack.

This leadership role focuses on designing a robust and maintainable Python architecture that meets high standards of performance, scalability, and auditability.

The individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams (including risk analysts, data engineers, and model validation specialists) to ensure a seamless transition of critical risk modeling processes to a modern, automated, and compliant Python environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Lead the design of the new Python-based risk analytics architecture and establish coding standards, best practices, and CI/CD pipelines for the migration project.
  • SAS-to-Python Code Migration: Analyze complex legacy SAS code and macros, then refactor and rewrite them into efficient, well-structured Python code, preserving existing model logic and outputs.
  • Performance & Scalability: Optimize code and algorithms for performance; identify opportunities to leverage data pipelines or distributed processing to handle large datasets and heavy computations within the Python environment.
  • Quality Assurance & Testing: Implement automated testing frameworks to verify that Python outputs match legacy SAS outputs. Work closely with model validation teams to address any discrepancies, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer: Partner with risk analytics stakeholders to thoroughly understand model requirements and ensure their needs are met. Support and mentor team members (including risk analysts) on Python best practices and facilitate knowledge transfer.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain comprehensive technical documentation (designs, code comments, data flow diagrams) to support model risk governance and audit requirements. Ensure all development processes follow internal model risk management policies and quality controls.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's a plus). 7+ years of software development experience with a strong focus on Python for data analysis, modeling, or ETL.
  • Python & SAS Expertise: Expert-level Python programming skills (e.g., proficiency with pandas, NumPy, etc.) and experience interpreting or migrating SAS code in a data-intensive analytics context.
  • Analytics & Architecture: Proven experience building data-intensive applications or analytics platforms (e.g., financial modeling systems, business intelligence pipelines). Skilled in designing architecture for processing large datasets and integrating with databases or data lakes.
  • Software Development Practices: Strong knowledge of the software development lifecycle and best practices, including version control (Git), code reviews, unit/integration testing, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) in a collaborative team environment.
  • Problem-Solving & Communication: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Strong collaboration and communication abilities to work effectively with cross-functional teams and convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Regulated Industry Knowledge: Experience working in regulated industries or risk analytics environments, with an understanding of the importance of auditability, data governance, and thorough model documentation for compliance.
