Job Summary

The Advanced Coding Specialist is responsible for day-to-day tasks related to applying appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing for all inpatient and outpatient encounters while maintaining data integrity within the medical records and other facility systems, as well as the information exchanged between Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS) and designated practice management facilities.


Required Qualifications

- Require one of the following certifications by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA):- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)-OR- - Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification.
- Require a minimum of six (6) years of work experience as a coder with a portion of experience in inpatient coding.


Preferred Qualifications

- Prefer hospital inpatient coding experience.
- Prefer Inpatient Coding Microcredential certification.
- Prefer demonstrated strong interpersonal, customer service skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact with different departments and practitioners.
- Prefer previous experience with Microsoft Office products, EHR software and Encoder systems. Prefer the ability to perform clerical duties and repetitive and detailed tasks.
- Prefer the ability to work independently, shift priorities, and demonstrate decision-making ability.
- Prefer strong attention to detail, strong analytical skills, critical thinking skill set and understanding of healthcare documentation.
