Job description

Job Title: Campus Security Officer

Our team serves across four essential areas — Family Services, Food Services, Immigration and Refugee Services, and Homeless and Housing Services — including the largest Meals on Wheels and Emergency Shelter programs in Southern Nevada. The Campus Security Officer's primary duties are to provide a physical security and policy enforcement program that promotes a safe and secure operating environment for all CCSN employees, clients, volunteers and guests that arrive on the main campus. Will observe report and document on activity pertaining to safety and security in support of the more than twenty social service programs conducted by CCSN. Operates in close coordination with the Surveillance Operations Center (SOC) for both gathering and disseminating important information. Will also conduct the processing, monitoring and area control for campus "Hot Spots," the campus community areas, the campus exterior perimeter, as well as campus buildings and lobby areas, and the activities of the Residential Services Division.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and secure campus environment for clients, visitors and staff.
  • Maintain mental and physical fitness to meets demands of the position and the environment.
  • Read, understand, implement and enforce the agency's departmental policies and procedures at the CCSN main campus or other assigned properties.
  • Observe, report and document violations of policy, safety or security.
  • Monitor and facilitate walking traffic flow and congestion on the campus.
  • Maintain awareness of programs and services being offered by CCSN for referral purposes.
  • Display professionalism, politeness, neatness and posture in effort to ensure that areas on campus are safe from crime and negative behavioral issues of clients and guests.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency first responder agencies as needed.
  • Effectively communicate to diffuse confrontational situations (Verbal Judo) and use force only as a last resort measure.
  • Be aware of situations that may result in safety hazard or property damage.
  • Protect all confidential information, company property and electronic data. Comply with safety rules.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, data, and property.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service, including customer needs assessment, and referral to the proper program for further guidance.
  • Ability to actively listen by giving full attention to what people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Ability to verbally convey information effectively.
  • Sound judgment to ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to comprehend and execute basic instructions
  • Possess average oral and written communication as well as management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet necessary deadlines.
  • Ability to record information and transfer to the report writing authorities.
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking, by using logic, policies and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Current Basic Emergency Technician Certification (EMT) preferred
  • Certified Protection Officer (CPO) preferred

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum two years of prior security, law enforcement or related work experience.
  • Ability to understand directives and carry them out to completion.
  • Flexible schedule to work after hours, holidays and weekends, as necessary.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate with clients, donors, board members, co-workers and other CCSN staff.
  • Ability to remain alert and effective during the entire shift in a 24/7 environment that includes internal and external patrols in all-weather at all hours.
  • Ability to continuously sit and/or stand. Ability to walk frequently throughout campus and occasionally run as needed. Ability to frequently climb stairs and ladders, stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling and grasping as needed.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations, as needed.
  • May occasionally have to assist with physically restraining a threatening individual/s.
  • Ability to regularly lift 20 pounds; ability to occasionally lift and/or drag 50 or more pounds.
  • Ability to operate and use office equipment, security equipment; listen and communicate by radio.

The schedule will consist of two 12's and two 8's, giving each employee 3 consecutive days off.

This position pays $18.00 per hour.
