Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW
Buffalo is a manufacturing facility with approximately 400 employees, serving both the NAR and NAF business segments. This unique site comprises a Cereal Plant, a Flour Mill, and a Grain Elevator, boasting a rich history of over 120 years of performance and innovation.
The Maintenance Team Leader provides front line safety and engagement-based technical leadership to achieve plant and platform results. The Maintenance Team Leader is responsible for direct leadership of the mechanics and electricians within their classifications. They are responsible for building maintenance capability at all levels of the platform team. The Maintenance Team Leader works to eliminate losses following a rigorous daily process that is data driven and focused on root cause elimination. The Maintenance Team Leader is accountable to improve the reliability of their systems through leading their team in maintenance foundational systems, technical problem solving and continuous improvement tools.
This position will cover Days, Monday through Friday primarily. Additional flexibility needed to cover weekends & off shift when needed.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety
Lead Food and Human Safety
  • Cultivate Human Safety Culture that reduces risk to our people and communities by increasing capability to identify and control critical risk.
  • Cultivate Food Safety Culture that is committed to manufacturing safe food that is compliant with policy and regulatory requirements.

People Leadership
  • Manage and direct the work of the maintenance mechanics and electricians inclusive of staffing, performance management and onboarding.
  • Role model Engaging Leader behaviors.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize team effectiveness (communication and collaboration).
  • Provide clear individual priorities and team goals to deliver platform priorities.
  • Cultivate a floor centric, positive and supportive team environment to foster employee engagement and retention.

Process Leadership and Ownership
Driving System Utilization (DSU):
  • Directly support the development and execution of the 90 Day action plan.

Daily Direction Setting (DDS):
  • Responsible to lead portions of the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly DDS meetings, including accuracy of performance metrics (defect found/fixed, breakdowns, and indicators of maintenance health). Coach and Support Shift DDS as appropriate.

Maintenance Foundational Systems:
  • Accountable for the overall effectiveness of the maintenance foundational systems for their platform.
  • Accountable for the Defect Handling (DH) process standard across the platform. Help maintain and improve the documentation of standards and coaches the team through the identification, prioritization, and resolution of defects.
  • Accountable for the Breakdown Elimination (BE) process for their platform.
  • Responsible to partner with Maintenance Asset Care Leader on MP&S to ensure planning, scheduling, and work assignments are being prioritized correctly to deliver platform results.
  • Accountable for the maintenance budget by delivering spring plan Maintenance & Reliability Costs for the Line/Platform (Materials, Services, OT) - Budget Management.
  • Responsible for the overall effectiveness and execution of Maintenance Shutdowns.

Know your Operation, Data, and Technology
  • Sound understanding of the production system and the product transformation process connected to the equipment on the line.
  • Deep understanding of daily management and process ownership interactions across the team (examples: MP&S, DH, CL, CIL, etc.).
  • Capable of utilizing Problem-Solving tools and processes.
  • Responsible for maintaining and utilizing a training/skills matrix to identify skill gaps, develop training plans and track employee progress.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma
  • 2+ years of manufacturing, frontline leadership, or technical leadership experience
  • Demonstrated leadership and working in a highly collaborative environment
  • Success in driving results through process and teamwork
  • Proven success reducing losses and improving performance in a manufacturing setting
  • Demonstrated technical capability and knowledge of unit operations and machinery (at least one production platform)
  • Skilled at communicating between work groups, cross-functional resources, and other members of the plant
  • Foundational knowledge of data analysis systems (examples: SAP, Maximo, Manufacturing Analytics, MQIS) and decision making for results
  • Experience in maintenance, reliability, and manufacturing
  • Must have good understanding and a broad range of experience in the following areas:
    • Materials: metals, plastics, elastomers, composites, coatings, etc.
    • Fabrication methods: welding, machining, surface treatment, etc.
    • Engineering skills: reading prints, measuring, and specifying
    • Fastening and joining methods and materials
    • Mechanical, electrical system knowledge
    • Lubrication principles
  • Craft worker experience or very strong knowledge of craft duties and capabilities
  • Practical knowledge of Maximo and Maintenance Planning & Scheduling

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree (Technical/Science/Engineering/Mechatronics preferred)
  • 4+ years of manufacturing, frontline leadership, or technical leadership experience
  • CMRP, MLTI, Eruditio Planning and Scheduling Certification

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $70100.00 - $105200.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
