Job description
The Conservation and Resource Development (CARDD) provides technical and financial assistance to local governments, site agencies, tribal governments, conservation districts, and private citizens for the conservation, development, and management of Montana's natural resources. CARDD works to ensure that Montana's land and water resources continue to provide benefits for present and future generations.
Position Overview:The Rangeland Resources Program implements the Rangeland Resources Act, Title 76, Chapter 14, MCA, by promoting healthy, sustainable rangelands that support people, wildlife, recreation, clean water, and Montana's scenic landscapes. The program works with conservation districts, producer groups, landowners, and partner organizations to encourage sound rangeland management and voluntary, non-regulatory stewardship across ownerships.
The program receives guidance from the governor-appointed Rangeland Resources Committee and supports initiatives such as the Montana Range Tour, Leopold Conservation Award, Working Lands Internship Program, Range Improvement Loan Programs, 406 Grazing Academy, Rangeland Appreciation Month outreach, and technical and grant assistance efforts that advance stewardship, soil health, and regenerative grazing practices. The position develops, implements, and adapts the Rangeland Resources Program at DNRC by providing staff support, policy development, administration, outreach, and coordination for the Rangeland Resources Committee and related initiatives.
This position serves as the lead coordinator for DNRC's rangeland resources work. The employee advises and coordinates with agencies, landowners, conservation districts, producers, and other stakeholders involved in range management; promotes compatibility among multiple rangeland users; supports the adoption of sound range management plans; participates in zoning and planning efforts affecting native range; and coordinates research and policy efforts to reduce duplication and improve statewide collaboration.
