Job description

DAY PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR (Open until filled) Looking for full time or part time Candidates that is a very reliable person.

Pathway to Choices provides Independent Living, Supported Living, and Adult Day Services to people with developmental disabilities. We have a strong value of consumer choice, as well as a strong emphasis on independent living and support in the home. We have multiple Instructor positions available and are looking for Bi-lingual staff to provide support to our consumers. A friendly outgoing person with clear communication skills is a must!

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Hoursย  Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • Candidate must have a reliable transportation and a clean Driving Record that will need to be provided during the hiring process. Candidate must have lasted more than a year at their previous or current jobs in order to qualify. ย 

Minimum Qualifications:ย 
  • Attainment of at least 18 years of age;ย 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;ย 
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skillsย 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including computer skills;ย 
  • Interest and willingness to work with consumers to meet their needs and choices;ย 
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible;ย 
  • Valid California Driver's License, adequate transportation including valid automobile insurance and current registration, and a clean DMV recordย 
  • Upon offer of employment, complete a Statement of Prior Criminal Conviction, obtain a California Criminal Clearance (Live-Scan Fingerprinting) or a Criminal Record Exemption, obtain and maintain required training (including but not limited to First Aid, CPR, andย  Pro-Act Training)

Preferred Knowledge:ย 
  • ย Knowledge of the service system for adults with developmental disabilities in the State of California.ย 
  • ย An understanding and commitment to the philosophy of normalization, inclusion, positive programming, and consumer-driven services.ย 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • ย Implements curriculum and activity schedules for consumers served; provides training in consumer-specific goals and objectives utilizing individualized training methodologies in domain areas including but not limited to Behavior Management, Independent Living, Pre-Vocational/Vocational Activities, Literacy (mathematics, history, sciences, business, English, arts, etc.) Community Participation, Self Advocacy/Self-Determination, Health and Well Being, use of Public Transportation, Money Management, Personal Care, Medication Administration, etc;ย 
  • Lesson preparation, teaching subject matter, documenting consumer progress toward goals and objectives, and other relevant information daily, weekly, monthly and annually;ย 
  • Actively participates in meetings including but not limited to ISP meetings, Quarterly and Semi-Annual reviews, Behavior Management Plan Sessions, Governance Meetings, staff meetings, In-Service Training Sessions, etc.ย 
  • ย Maintains and monitors professional relationships with consumers, families, Agency Staff, RCEB, Community Care Licensing, community members and employers;ย 
  • ย Implements community based paid and volunteer opportunities for consumers;
  • ย Ensures consumer rights are not violated;
  • ย Completes required training (CPR, First Aid, ProAct Training, etc.) as required.
  • ย Other duties as assigned.
  • ย Have some experience working with people with different behaviors.

Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach above shoulders, perform repetitive hand motion, lift up to 40 pounds comfortable, lift and transfer consumers from wheel chairs, willing to change their diapers when needed, and to stand for long periods of time.
