What is a day custodian?

Day custodians are responsible for maintaining cleanliness, order, and safety in buildings such as schools, offices, or public facilities during daytime hours. Their duties typically include cleaning floors, restrooms, and common areas, restocking supplies, emptying trash, and responding to immediate maintenance or cleaning needs. Day custodians often interact with staff and the public, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment throughout the day. They may also assist with setup and breakdown for events or meetings. This role is essential in preventing the spread of germs and maintaining a healthy space for occupants.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a day custodian, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Day Custodian, you need knowledge of cleaning procedures, basic maintenance skills, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with cleaning equipment, chemical safety data sheets (SDS), and sometimes OSHA certification is typically required.
