Position: Manager, Marine Operations Department: Marine OperationsReports To: Director, Marine Operations M1Date Written/Revised: June 14, 2024 FLSA Designation: (Exempt)
Position Summary: Responsible for managing safe and efficient vessel operations.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Direct involvement in the management of the ILA workforce to include work practices, productivity and discipline that are consistent with company policies.
  2. Minimize the operating cost by eliminating redundancies, refinement of processes and utilization of resources.
  3. Effectively communicate with customers and internal work force concerning the planning and logistics of the vessel operation.
  4. Ensure that all terminal systems and reporting accurately reflect all empty and loaded equipment and/or cargo concerning a specific vessel operation.
  5. Responsible for timely and accurate Vessel Performance Reports.
  6. Responsible to maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Supervisory responsibilities:

Supervision of all ILA labor in conjunction with ILA foreman during vessel operations.


Capabilities:

  • Requires problem solving skills to respond quickly and effectively to operational issues.
  • Requires the ability to plan and organize projects in a fast-paced environment and be available to work varied hours, shifts and days.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with union workforce and other staff.
  • Requires the ability to analyze and trouble shoot computer programs.

Requirements:

  • College Degree or Maritime Schooling preferred.
  • Marine terminal experience a plus. Recent grads with the right tools given strong consideration.

Working conditions and physical requirements:

  • Individual will be required to work outdoors throughout the year.
  • Individual will be required to work overtime, weekend hours and regular shift rotations (flexible hours).
  • Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures of hot and cold, and conditions of high levels of noise.
  • The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment.
  • The ability to climb up and down a steep vessel gangway multiple times within a shift.
  • Required to observe all safety and health requirements for container terminal environment.
  • Driving a pick-up truck to various terminal locations, including vessel births.
  • Approximately 90% of a Marine Manager’s time is spent outside.
  • Individual might be required to work outside of normal 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule.

Tools: Microsoft office, NAVIS, general office equipment. Must possess a valid driver’s license in order to drive company vehicle in terminal and TWIC card.


Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $54,054.00 to $81,082.00 annually + bonus + benefits
