Job description

Overview
The Dataverse Runtime team builds and operates the foundational platform that powers Microsoft Power Platform, Dynamics 365, Microsoft Copilot experiences, and the next generation of AI-powered business applications.
As organizations increasingly rely on AI agents, copilots, and autonomous workflows to transform business processes, Dataverse serves as the trusted platform that connects AI systems to enterprise data, business logic, workflows, security boundaries, and mission-critical operational systems. Our platform enables AI-powered experiences to reason over business data, take actions securely, orchestrate complex workflows, and deliver measurable business outcomes.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help shape the future of intelligent business applications by building the runtime, execution, and extensibility platform that powers AI-driven workflows at global scale. This role offers the opportunity to work on highly distributed cloud services, solve challenging systems problems, and influence foundational investments across Dataverse, Power Platform, Dynamics 365, and Microsoft's AI ecosystem.
Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. We come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and operate distributed cloud services that power Dataverse Runtime and support mission-critical customer workloads around the world.
  • Develop platform capabilities that enable AI agents, copilots, and intelligent applications to securely access enterprise data, execute business logic, and automate real-world business processes.
  • Lead the design and implementation of reliability, scalability, security, performance, and operational excellence improvements across core runtime services.
  • Drive technical architecture, design reviews, and engineering decisions across multiple feature areas and partner teams.
  • Partner with engineers across Power Platform, Dynamics 365, Microsoft 365, Azure, and AI platform teams to deliver platform capabilities that unlock new AI-powered experiences.
  • Own services throughout the full engineering lifecycle, including design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, live-site support, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) for production services, participating in on-call rotations, incident mitigation, root cause analysis, and long-term reliability improvements.
  • Leverage AI-powered engineering tools and workflows to improve development velocity, code quality, operational effectiveness, and engineering productivity.
  • Mentor engineers and help establish best practices for modern software engineering, AI-assisted development, operational excellence, and technical leadership.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience developing software using C#, Java, C++, Python, or similar programming languages.
  • Experience driving technical initiatives that span multiple services, components, or engineering teams.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex production issues.
  • Experience with service operations, monitoring, incident response, and operational excellence practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage modern AI-powered development tools and workflows throughout the software engineering lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, debugging, operational investigation, and productivity optimization.
  • Passion for continuous learning and adapting to emerging technologies, engineering practices, and AI-enabled development approaches.
  • Experience building large-scale SaaS platforms serving enterprise customers.
  • Experience with Azure services, cloud-native architectures, microservices, distributed messaging systems, storage systems, and large-scale data platforms.
  • Experience operating highly available production services at scale.
  • Experience building developer platforms, extensibility frameworks, APIs, workflow engines, or execution runtimes.
  • Experience designing or developing AI-powered applications, copilots, agents, agent orchestration frameworks, or intelligent workflow systems.
