Job description

Markon is seeking a Database Engineer 3 to support the Fort Meade customer by designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise database solutions that support mission-critical applications and systems. This role provides technical leadership in database architecture, engineering, and modernization efforts while collaborating with software developers, system engineers, and mission stakeholders to implement scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions. The role also evaluates emerging technologies and recommends innovative approaches that align with the customer's evolving technical roadmap.


  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise database solutions supporting mission-critical applications
  • Administer and optimize relational databases to ensure performance, availability, and reliability
  • Enhance existing applications by integrating new database technologies and capabilities
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend database solutions to support current and future mission requirements
  • Support database architecture, engineering, and modernization initiatives across enterprise environments
  • Develop and maintain RESTful services supporting database-driven applications
  • Collaborate with software developers, systems engineers, and stakeholders to define technical requirements and implement solutions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database performance, availability, and integration issues
  • Lead technical projects and provide guidance to engineering teams as required
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph with this Customer is required
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline
  • 20+ years of experience performing database administration, database engineering, or database design in support of system engineering, software development, or related technical environments
  • Experience with one or more of the following database technologies:
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • PostgreSQL
    • MySQL
    • Oracle Database
    • AWS Aurora and Amazon RDS
  • Experience developing or supporting RESTful web services
  • Experience supporting Windows and Linux environments
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience leading technical projects and coordinating cross-functional engineering teams
