About the position
The Senior Platform Analyst - Database Services (Cloud/DBaaS) designs, builds, and operates the Bank's enterprise Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platforms in Azure. It also supports the Bank's shift from traditional database administration to a cloud-first platform model, enabling teams to securely and efficiently consume database services at scale.

  • Azure SQL Managed Instance (primary migration platform)
  • Azure Database for PostgreSQL (strategic growth platform)
  • Oracle Database@Azure (targeted exception platform)

This is a platform engineering role focused on designing, automating, and operating enterprise database platforms rather than individual database instances. It also requires working knowledge of on-premises platforms such as SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and Oracle RAC to support hybrid operations and migrations. 

What you will do
In this role, you will help design, deliver, and operate enterprise cloud database platforms under the Bank's DBaaS model.

More specifically, you will:

  • Platform Engineering & Design
    • Help design and evolve cloud database platforms (Azure SQL MI, PostgreSQL, Oracle@Azure)
      • Implement high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) patterns aligned with enterprise requirements
    • Define and enforce platform standards, guardrails, and onboarding patterns for application teams
  • DBaaS Delivery & Lifecycle
    • Provision, scale, patch, and decommission databases using automation and infrastructure as code
    • Support migration from on-premises platforms (SQL Server AG, Oracle RAC) to Azure database platforms
      • Work with platform and application teams to assess, plan, and execute database migrations, including hybrid architectures
      • Drive adoption of standardized database services for new and existing applications
  • Automation & Operations
    • Develop and maintain automation for provisioning, monitoring, backup, and recovery worflows
    • Implement monitoring, alerting, and performance baselines to maintain reliability
      • Participate in incident response, problem management, and service improvement
  • Governance & Security
    • Apply enterprise requirements for identity and access management, encryption, and auditing
      • Support data protection, backup/recovery, and compliance requirements
    • Contribute to architecture deliverables and governance processes

 
What you need to succeed
You bring strong database expertise and a passion for cloud platforms, automation, and continuous improvement. You thrive in a dynamic environment and help deliver secure, reliable, and scalable database services. You are also a self-starter and strong collaborator who can work independently and across diverse teams.

In addition, you have: 

  • Experience with:
    • cloud database platforms, including Azure SQL Managed Instance and/or Azure Database for PostgreSQL
    • automation and infrastructure as code (scripts, pipelines, or templated deployments)
    • supporting or executing database migrations from on-premises to cloud platforms
    • designing and operating high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) database solutions
    • improving operational efficiency through automation and standardization
  • Working knowledge of on-premises platforms such as SQL Server (e.g., Always On) and Oracle (e.g., RAC, Data Guard), especially for migration and hybrid architectures
  • Strong understanding of backup, recovery, and data protection strategies in production environments
  • Proven ability to resolve performance, reliability, and availability issues
  • Ability to contribute to standardized, scalable platform solutions beyond individual database instances
  • Strong collaboration skills to work across technical teams and support application onboarding to shared platforms

Note: Participation in an on-call rotation is required, with additional compensation provided

Nice-to-have

  • Deeper experience with Oracle Database environments (e.g., RAC, Data Guard, Exadata) or complex SQL Server deployments in enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with enterprise governance, security, and compliance frameworks
  • Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and observability tools for cloud platforms
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Data, Database, or Architecture certifications)

Your education and experience

Your combined education and work experience demonstrate that you have the competencies and skills for the position. We are ideally seeking candidates with a relevant education (computer science or related field) and 5+ years of relevant experience in database technologies and/or cloud platforms.

Hybrid Work Model

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a portion of each month as part of the Bank's hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

    • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $111,055 to $130,650 (job grade 17)
    • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.

    • Extra vacation days (up to five each year) that you can purchase to add to your vacation entitlement
