Role description
Nomura is seeking highly skilled database technology engineer that will be part of global database operations and engineering team and help drive database platform strategies.
Our firm has embarked on a journey to radically standardize IT infrastructure platforms across the Group and strengthen support structures. We are looking for a Cloud Database Engineer with primary specialization in AWS and strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL to design, build, and operate our mission-critical database platforms. Moreover, the candidate will also work in production support operations to provide advanced database administration support for the global database servers.
Nomura is looking for someone keen to make an impact on database technologies through cloud adoption and automation. The candidate will continuously contribute various strategies across database technologies, with the objective to continuously keep pace with the fast-evolving technology industry.
  • Design and implement scalable, resilient architectures for database services.
  • Develop solutions for high availability, disaster recovery, backups, and auditing for the database services.
  • Create standardized Terraform and CloudFormation modules for the automation of cloud infrastructure and database provisioning.
  • Develop and manage IAM roles, policies, permissions boundaries, and resource-based policies.
  • Implement and maintain AWS logging and monitoring solutions, including CloudTrail, CloudWatch, S3 replication, and bucket policies.
  • Ensure adherence to networking, security, and compliance best practices in cloud environments.
  • Utilize GitLab Enterprise for version control, adhering to best practices.
  • Document designs, processes, and workflows using Jira and Confluence.
  • Changes and Incident Management and Perform various house-keeping maintenance tasks.
  • Manage inquiries and requests from Application teams or provide consultancy on Database design on new systems build-out projects.
  • Implement Data protection solutions, anonymization, and database level encryption.
  • Assists Application teams for Data migration, Backup to Tape, and Recovery process part of disaster recovery.
  • Provide Production support in 24x7, partnering with engineers globally in Follow-The-Sun Model.
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required
The candidate must have the following skills and experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in AWS Cloud Development
  • Experience on Design, Build and Operate Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL & PostgreSQL Databases
  • Experience in designing and implementing infrastructure for following AWS database services:
    1. Required: AWS RDS & Aurora MySql/PostgreSQL
    2. Optional: AWS Redshift, AWS OpenSearch, AWS EMR
  • Proficiency in Terraform, CloudFormation and Ansible.
  • In-depth knowledge of IAM Policies and AWS security practices.
  • Solid understanding of AWS logging and monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of networking, security, and compliance best practices in cloud environments.
  • Expertise in Python - developer experience in creating custom module, micro services, AWS SDK integrations etc.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, and good team player.
  • Well-motivated in learning the latest technology trends and ability to self-learn.
  • Good foundational knowledge of Linux Operating system as a Database engineer
  • Engineering Mindset & Troubleshooting skills.
Experience / Knowledge of the following will be added advantage (but not mandatory):
  • Expertise in MongoDB, Redis & Elasticsearch
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience in Infrastructure Automation Development
  • Experience with monitoring systems and log management/reporting tools (e.g. Prometheus, Loki, Grafana, Splunk, ELK).
  • Practical experience in installing, configuring, operating, and monitoring CI/CD pipeline tools
