Database Administrator II

Richmond, VA (Onsite:  Monday-Friday 9am-5pm)

Experience Level: Intermediate (5+ Years)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator II to support a database migration initiative while providing day-to-day administration of production database environments. This role requires a hands-on DBA with strong Microsoft SQL Server experience who can manage critical database operations, support migration efforts, and ensure system reliability and performance.

The ideal candidate will have experience migrating databases between platforms, validating systems after migration, and supporting production environments through troubleshooting, backup, recovery, and performance optimization activities.

 

Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain production Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Support database migration projects from existing platforms to new environments.
  • Validate database functionality and system performance following migrations.
  • Perform database backup, restore, and recovery operations.
  • Respond to and resolve database incidents and break/fix issues.
  • Monitor database health, performance, and availability.
  • Execute maintenance tasks, updates, and database patches.
  • Manage database security, permissions, and access controls.
  • Troubleshoot database performance, connectivity, and operational issues.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, procedures, and support records.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure database stability and reliability.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience administering and managing production SQL Server databases.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server versions ranging from 2008 through 2019.
  • Experience performing database migrations and post-migration validation.
  • Strong knowledge of database backup, restore, recovery, and monitoring processes.
  • Proven troubleshooting experience in production database environments.
  • Experience managing database security, permissions, and user access.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Oracle databases.
  • Experience with high-performance SQL environments.
  • Familiarity with hardware refresh or infrastructure migration projects.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.

Pay and Benefits
